Re: LOVE BEING ON MY SCHEDULE!!

Since retiring some years ago, I was only on a schedule due to having dogs in the house!  Dogs love a schedule, and I was happy to provide them with one.  Now I'm down to one dog and luckily we tend to wake up at the same time.

I have read that it is actually healthier for our bodies to be on a schedule.  It does not have to be rigid, but our bodies, like those of our pets, seem to also like knowing that sleep and meals and other important things of that nature will occur at predictable times.

I do remember my first job out of college (WAY back when).  I worked in an office but we punched a time clock.  If you were even a minute late, you'd get the "late" time on your card circled in red.  I was such a rebel I sometimes used to deliberately wait past the time and punch in a minute or two late.  I never had any respect for mindless bureaucracy.

When you speak of your "body" being on a schedule, that is much different than "what you do" at what being set in stone, like work hours are between, A thru M  being the same every work day.

Studies have shown that is healthier for SOME to sleep/wake up and get moving at certain times. I worked: Midnight to 8am/4pm to Midnight/7am to 3:30pm, and 8am to 4pm. No way to keep the same/sleep/wake schedule.

I too was(and still am) a rebel. However, if we punched late or punched out, too many times? We'd get a warning, and with the 3rd one you were shown the door. Bye-Bye to your job. I managed to work there, punching a clock, for 33 years. Rebel that I was(am), I knew where the "out of bounds lines were drawn", both on clock irregularities and days of absence

They set the boundaries, but I stayed just inside their boundaries. They didn't like that, or me, very well. Whenever 1 of my bosses would say something to me about this. I said the same comment to them. "You guys set the rules of your game, and I am still, inside your out of bounds lines, right"? End of conversation.

Re: LOVE BEING ON MY SCHEDULE!!

Is there some reason you thought I was arguing with you, @hckynutjohn?

I clearly understand the difference between being on a "work" schedule and one's body being on a "schedule."

Nope, didn't give it a thought. Quite the contrary, I was/am in full agreement with you. You mentioned health and I expanded on it.  The main thing I liked seeing your post was when you said at times you could be a rebel.

Reminded me of the fun times I had with 1-sided, heated discussions with some of bosses. They were heated and I was enjoying every minute of it. Many did not have a clue how to handle someone that was not a "yes man". Guess the wasn't in their robo discipline speeches.

Hope that clears this up.

Re: LOVE BEING ON MY SCHEDULE!!

As a part-time employee in a hospital department that was staffed 24/7/365, my life was dictated by a weekly schedule.  For 16 years I lived my life around my work schedule.  Typically, from 11 p.m. Friday till 9 p.m. Tuesday, I worked 2 night shifts, a day shift, and 2 evening shifts.   Life got easier when I transferred into an office position that was 8-4:30 Monday thru Friday, but I was still punching a time clock every day, and my body had adjusted to my work routine.

All of that was exactly what I wanted to get rid of when I retired.  I absolutely, positively do not want a daily routine.   My husband is disabled, but still able to drive and get together with his friends every week, which I highly encourage.
