I have been living alone for almost 6 years, actually not alone with my dachshunds. All my life I either lived at home or was married. I embrace the freedom. I have a completely different lifestyle and I am still learning and enjoy it. If I am up til 3 am, that is ok. I have no one to answer to but myself. A whole different life. I have some structure, I cook a lot and take meals to shutins in my subdivision, visit them at least every two days, work in my yard/garden and take care of my fur babies, to include my flying squirrels. A bit of regimen needs to be inserted into every lifestyle. A real learning experience.

@qvc chick I will be in the minority here, but personally I don't think there is anything wrong with a guy or gal living at home, as long as they have their own life, i.e., job/career, friends, interests, etc.
Why should family members all live in separate houses?
If you love each other, why shouldn't you live together, at least until the adult child marries or otherwise "leaves the nest."
I lived alone when I was younger and I HATED IT.
Maybe I would like it now, IDK.
Plus, it's handy for the parent to have an adult child there in case they need help with something around the house.
As long as the parent recognizes the adult child has her/his own life and doesn't encroach upon it, then it's fine IMO.

Dogs are definitely both good and bad. I do not live alone yet but I worry if I did, being older, what would happen if I got in a wreck, wound up in hospital etc. to the dogs. I have no one who would take care of them for me. I just hope my husband outlives them. If alone I think I would not want any pets even though that is when I would need them. Also if you get an opportunity to do something you have to worry about them and how long you will be gone.

@chiclet I can't imagine being without my pets. I have a wonderful pet sitter who is always available. Babies are in their own home, no stress for them and none for me. I am sent a text everyday updating me. Works for me
