I always feel a bit more kind during the Christmas season. After reading of another suicide yesterday by someone most think has it all, felt a need to post. I was at the grocery store yesterday. An elderly lady walked in as I entered the doorway. She was a bit bent over, walking very slowly, not a smile on her face. I didn't see her again until I was walking out the store. She was putting her groceries in her car and I noticed that she had beautifully braided hair and went to her to tell her how nice her hair looked. Her eyes immediately started twinkling and she had the biggest, most happy smile on her face. She even stood a bit straighter. As I was putting my groceries in the trunk, she passed by and honked her horn, waving big and with a smile that lit up our dreary, cloudy day. Kindness matters.

@Carolina925 Your quick thinking to complement the lady may have been the only interaction she had all day. I am certain it made you have a happier day as well. Many people in today's world are so self absorbed they do not see outside themselves. I think a lot of the hate and vitriol we are seeing could be neutralized by simple acts of kindness.

Let's all try it! Say good morning to a stranger. Smile. Thank the curbside pickup folks with a genuine thank you for making my life easier. It isn't difficult to turn someone's day around for the better.

@Carolina925   Bless you for your kindness.  I often have paid for another person's meal when I go to restaurants.  I will look around the place and see someone eating by themselves and if they look kind of lonely I will ask the waitress/waiter to give me their bill.  I always ask them not to tell them who it is that's paying.  It's the most wonderful feeling to see the surprise on their faces.  I wish I had lots and lots of money to give to the homeless and animal care.

It's so heartwarming to hear that it matters to so many. I always think we need to keep a little Christmas in our hearts all year long. Even the smallest ripple makes a difference.

Kindness matters a great deal! I've been that person (woman with braided hair) before when someone did or said something really nice and it made all the difference in the world. Great message, OP, to remind us all.

A small act of kindness can bring so much joy to so many people. We never know what someone else may be dealing with--loneliness, illness, loss of a job or loved one, financial difficulties, or any number of other things.

Re: Kindness Matters

Kindness does not cost a cent.  When I go shopping or other errands I look for people to compliment.  Mostly its the cashier or waiter/waitress and maybe just another shopper.  I have yet to be met with rudeness.  Always a smile and a thank you.

I dont think most people are as rude and nasty as the world makes them out to be.  I think they are afraid to talk or speak to strangers because of how we have been painted.

I know there are the "ugly" folks out there.

That reply was uncalled for.  The original thought was honest and sweet and as we do things like that we do it more often.  Do you ever need to look at youself?
