Re: ''Karen'' for a name...anyone?

I didn't know that was a thing anymore. Stupid to begin with. I was looking on MSN and a couple topics are classic boomer names not used much anymore  and popular names from the year you were born, and unpopular names no longer given. Guess I'll check it out.

My real name is Karen, and I love my name.  My mother loved its Norwegian origins and felt it was so soft and lovely. I was born in the 1950s and while it was not like the popular Mary, Susan, Tracy etc., it had some popularity.

I was born in the early 50's and have a very common name which I didn't like. Five of us in my class!

I wanted to be named Karen and asked my mother why I can't have that name. She said because I have a cousin with that name. I still like the name Karen and it's sad that some have turned it into something bad.

I think I graduated with a half dozen Karens, and not one of them was a negative individual. Sad that it has that connotation today.

Re: ''Karen'' for a name...anyone?

It's a very popular Boomer name like Susan, Patricia, Diane, Debbie, Babara, Carol, Mary....I could go on.  You never see babies named those names anymore.

However, I really feel very badly for the women with the name of Karen.  How it became so negative is really awful!  I have read that some women when in public give a different name when having their names called out so they don't get strange looks.  Some women named Karen have gotten pretty upset by all of the negativity.

No, I'm not a Karen but I do know several.

The derogatory inference given to a woman who complains about having been wronged, infuriates me. It's part of a big scheme to degrade and decrease the importance of the female opinion. We shouldn't put up with being called "karens". Its going to get worse.

@goldensrbest It's gotten really terrible!  Just go over to Youtube and search for "Karen"....nothing else and you'll see what I mean!

I've known two Karens, one was just OK, the other awful.

I can't see much difference between Karen used to describe an unpleasent woman and Debbie used to discribe a downer.

If my name were Karen, it isn't, I would instead introduce myself as Karri or Kara. To me, both are more pleasing names.

A poster used "Karen" just yesterday in a response to others, so it's still in use.

A moderator deleted the post as name calling.

It was in the thread about Pat's daughter.

(I'll note, however, that said poster also used some other derogatory terms.)
