Re: January 2016 - Back Fence

Epi, Sue is occasionally on Facebook - I emailed her a week or so ago and she did answer but they are not in the best of spirits - or weren't then but doing OK. Does that make sense. Cannot recall - hate to have gotten older than you know what - if she said she was having problems with the Q board - do not think so however. Will email her again.

OK, I am FREEZING and the rain - can you believe I am going to say this - but wish it would go away. TOO MUCH, TOO SOON. Have to get sandbags tomorrow as my house sits a bit down from the street and the water can come into the carport. Sigh. Lots of accidents and sirens going all day long. It was miserable to go to the high school and sit in the pouring cold rain and wait for Davey - he was drenched by the time he got to the car.When everything is dry and dead and the water pours down - it is not a nice thing to see or be in. Lots of flash flooding and that is on tap through Friday. Sigh.

Tessa and kids are at friends house - dumber than dumb to go - no I did NOT drive her this time - in this horrible weather. But then old great Grandma is kind of dumb I guess.

Davey is having a frozen dinner, I am having blueberry bagels with cream cheese and a glass of wine - just sounded good to me. Tomorrow morning Davey goes to school and I will go to exercise and then to the restaurant in the next block and meet with seniors from another church who meet there for breakfast twice a month - I usually go once a month to join in. They are a great group of people.

Needless to say the animals are going stir crazy - dog of course gets outside - and adfter several years of coasing, he goes out in the rain - SLOWLY - the kitties do noy - they would wash away and freeze in the process.

Stay warm everyone.

Re: January 2016 - Back Fence

Congratulations on 35 years, Bernie.   I too worked that long at our  University and when I look back I can remember electric typewriters were a treat.  Then came the giant word processor which had its own room.   Desktops came next.  We all had Dels.  Never dreamed I'd have my own computer.   I held the record for having the most bosses.    I might have driven them away but I don't think so.  Not many people stick around that long nowadays.  But I have many life long friends from there.

@Epicurean

Sweetie, I didn't get the email on the 3rd, and you might not believe this, but I could feel you wishing me well on that day.  The more time that passes, the better I deal with the day.

I found myself watching the clock a couple times and made myself focus on decluttering and cooking.  I don't cook often and I only made some bacon in the oven and some boiled eggs, but it even got Grayson's attention, lol.

@Winifred

It was in the teens yesterday morning.  I thought my face was going to fall off when I ran my garbage to the curb for pickup.  It's supposed to get in the 40's later this week with rain and then another cold blast is coming in as soon as Sunday.

If it's not raining too hard on Saturday, I will take down my exterior lights and undecorate the yard lamp post.

If you connect with Sue on Facebook, please let her know I said hello and happy new year.

Re: January 2016 - Back Fence

Happy belated new year to all of you; hope it has started out great for everyone. Things are better for both of us health wise except the drug I'm on for my RA is causing my hair to fall out and though I knew that was a side effect I'm still not happy about itSmiley Frustrated, but at least I'm not in constant painSmiley Happy

Thanks, Yock, for helping me find my way back to the fence. I didn't take the time to read all the post's, but I'll try to catch up and see what everyone's been up to.

We had quite a blizzard a few days ago and were forced to stay in for a few days as the roads were too dangerous to be on, in fact major freeways were closed for many miles. Thankfully for electricity only went off during the night for a brief time and we were safely tucked into our warm bed so we never had to use our fireplace though I wouldn't have minded. During that time our computers went out and we thought it had something to do with the weather, but when the repairman arrived he immediately realized my router was bad and he replaced it and got us up and going once again. Neither of us were happy to have our 'puter's out for three daysCat Mad but we survived the traumaSmiley Wink

Woulda been nice to have our emoticon's replaced while I was gone......never have like these weird little guys.

Does everyone have your Christmas decorations down and packed up? I have not. I want to enjoy them for a spell longer and we're still nibbling on candy and petit' four's too. Never to late for them and there's plenty to share so I'm leaving lots here at the fence with some hot cocoa. Enjoy.

Happy Thursday all! Sue

Re: January 2016 - Back Fence

Good to see you made it in, Queen.   You have been missed.  I'm enjoying your goodies.

We have ice this morning but by noon, we are supposed to get to 50.  Then next week single digits   No wonder my sinuses are screaming.

My sister lives in Dallas/Fort Worth area so we were concerned about the tornados.   They escaped the wind but did have a flooded driveway.

I'm hoping this post will let paragraph breaks hold.  It always tells me I've done something illegal.  Maybe, bit I'm pretty sure it's not paragraph breaks.

Re: January 2016 - Back Fence

Duh, dummy me, lost you all but now I've found you again lol

Raining here but will get out before it turns to freezing rain, & then much colder but it is Winter.

Thinking about chicken thighs tonite, I just bake them with roasted potatoes, veggie & maybe a salad, like them better than the breasts.  Also thinking of making a pot of chili with the cold weather coming.

Leftover cookies & coffee out by the fence, enjoy

@Queenofo2

Sue, Happy New Year to You.  If it's okay with your doctor of course, you might want to try a Biotin supplement to help with the hair.  I recommend Nature Made biotion 2500 mcg once a day.  Only reason I am bringing up biotion as my auto immune disorder is hashimotos - makes the thyroid hypo.  My endocrinologist couldn't believe that as bad as my thyroid was, I didn't lose any hair.  Also taking synthroid didn't cause me to lose any hair.  I think that's because I had been taking biotin once a day for like 18 months before the thyroid hit the skids - just a thought :-)

We are expecting some bitter cold, rain/snow then snow mix this weekend into next.  I'm glad your computer is up and running again.

I am old school - I won't take down my Christmas decor before the Feast of the Epiphany.  Usually, I do it mid January as I work for a company that recognizes MLK day and gives it to us as a holiday.

I am still turning my exterior lights on at night - I'm not along either.  Lots of folks in my city still have theirs on at night.  Now this weekend, most likely Saturday, I will take down the lights because it's supposed to be milder weatherwise.

I enjoy looking at my little tree and my Christmas decor so it will stay up at least another week.

Re: January 2016 - Back Fence

Whew! You made it back Queen Sue - you have been missed.Give my best to Jim.

Bernie, I had not forgotten your question about the Black eyed Peas. Now I have to explain why I was so late in answering. I just go to the store and buy them  as I know exactly what I want. Never thought about the brand - been doing this for years. Asked a few of my friends who did the same thing - NOT ONE OF US KNEW WHAT THE BRAND WAS. Have no clue what that means about any of us. My answer is also NOT going to help. I buy a local brand, called Stater Bros - it is a medium size grocery chain = never had looked to see who furnished those darn peas. Where you live I do not think there is a but these look exactly like the ones we ate as kids back in NC. The pea is a super light brown, and the center, thus Black Eyed, is a super dark brown or black.  By the way I called my friends who buy these peas to tell them the brand they buy. LOL.

Very very cold here and they say NO RAIN TODAY - sure hope that is true, but it will be back tomorrow in all its glory.And should continue on through the following Thursday - enough is enough.

Right now it is 9:40 in Sou Cal and the temp is 40 - car was a chunk of ice when I went out to take Davey to school. Got down to 30 last night and more of the same tonight. MOuntains around us are glorious - white with snow - love looking at it but do not want to be in it. Been quite a few years since we have had snow in the hills - for years and years it was quite common this time of the year and so I was glad to see it back. Big Bear got 30 inches - they had expected 24, so that was really good news for them - that is a very big ski area.

Stay warm everyone. Just finished throwing together some potato salad and so that was my breakfast. Being the cook I had to taste it of course.
