Mom passed the week of Thanksgiving 2017.  She received a jury duty summons the following week.  Smiley Happy   Dad laughed and called to tell them she wouldn't be there.  It takes quite a while (sometimes years) for records to be updated.

When I had jury duty.....so many had really valid issues and were not excused. I find this troubling.

go and do your civic duty. it is part of being an american citizen. if you are worried about traffic that day then go stay in atlanta the night before......do some sightseeing and get a hotel. consider it an adventure.

And who is paying for THAT?🤔

If you can't afford it, don't do it.  But it is your duty as a citizen to go when called for jury duty.  Part of the problem in this country is that people want it all but refuse to do their part.  I'm not saying that's you but I'm saying responsibilities come with being a US citizen and that includes jury duty, voting, standing up for injustices, etc etc.

I just got my third jury duty notice but I am Canadian so they decided that I didn’t qualify each time.I don’t know how I get so many requests in the few years I have lived in the USA.I have friends who were born here and haven’t received one.

when we first arrived we got invited to a presidential inauguration and ball...of course that was a mistake too.I don’t know what list we are on

I usually get called every year in the fall sometimes I will make it two years.  I work across the street from our Courthouse, in fact that is my view while I eat my lunch in the conference room.  Last fall I was picked for the first round of a murder trial but did not get picked for the 12 for the final jury.  Did not get out of the courthouse until way after dinner time.

I have been on one where a postal worker held a lady hostage and we as the jury claimed he was not capable to stand trial and was put away for mental treatment.  Right now I am hoping desperately to be called in for jury duty this summer so I will not be called on in Sept.  A man killed his 11 year old niece and after four days of missing she was located in a well on another family member's property.  The jurors are going to be individually interviewed before chosen and the interviews will take two to three weeks.  I cannot deal with hearing about this man killing and tormenting this little girl we were all praying for and looking for.

@beckyb1012 I can’t imagine having to listen to and see pictures of horrible crimes involving children or anyone for that matter.I think I would need counseling after that myself.

I totally sympathize with you; it is a pain to have to travel into downtown in unfamiliar area...not knowing if you will have to do it just once or several days...I seem to get a jury summons every year....DH hasn't received one in years....I know they do pick based on utility turn-ons so they get new residents involved. I have my DH take me downtown, drop me off, and then he goes to the library until I call him when I am done.
