Re: Infection may postpone surgery

Adding insult to injury, I had a bad reaction to the antibiotic I was given for the sinus infection. In addition to horrific gastro issues, I woke up with Achilles Tendonitis this morning. I had the same reaction to another antibiotic years ago and to a statin. Those were the ONLY other times I had this painful tendonitis. It’s clear that my Achilles tendon  is truly my « Achilles heel. » I have already gotten used to the idea that my surgery will likely be postponed.

@Vivian  Oh no, when it rains it pours.  I hope all of this clears up for you sooner rather than later.  Bless your mother.  They call them the greatest generation for a reason :-)

I have three joint replacements and my ortho surgeon is adamant that I continue to take antibiotics before any invasive procedure, including any dental work.

Last thing you would need is an infection, @Vivian, and I hope you are cleared for surgery quickly.  🤞🏻

My ortho recommends the antibiotic rx for 2 years, following joint replacement surgery, prior to dental cleaning & invasive procedures.

Re: Infection may postpone surgery

November 30 is my new surgery date. I’ll just have to limp along for a few more weeks. Hopefully, my mother’s health will hold. I told her doctor that Mom is the family matriarch and we want her to reach 100.

My internst said that the decision to postpone surgery was very smart. Knee replacement needs to take place in a patient with no sign of infection. That’s not me. My Thanksgiving will go on as scheduled. We’re going to a lovely restaurant, where a good knee is not required but a good appetite is. I definitely qualify.

@Vivian

I am checking in.

Last I read about you had to do with your full plate.

I am hoping that your DD’s upset is over, and it sounds like your mom’s Strokes and your knee surgery have been resolved.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving meal and a wonderful Christmas visit with your grandson and his girlfriend!

Re: Infection may postpone surgery

Update: I spoke to the surgical scheduler who told me that I’d have to repeat certain tests two weeks before my 11/30 surgery to insure all infection is gone. I told her I still felt like I had a sinus infection so she told me to call my family doctor’s office since I hadn’t been on antibiotic very long. I called twice, left two messages, and never got through to speak to the nurse practitioner. She has not returned my calls. They are the worst run practice in town. I will be persistent. I will be more assertive tomorrow. I don’t need this. My mother’s BP is up again and I’m worried about her. And next week I take my husband to his semi annual neurolgist’s appointment. I know I won’t be hearing good news.
