I would just like to add a prefix...like Duchess

I went to school with so many who had the same name as me. I always had to use the initial of my last name.....until another same-name had a last name with the same initial.I remember on class in middle school - 36 kids and 7 of us with the same first name.
That's just the way it was back then.
I gave my kids society-normal names but ones that few others had. But our list of names had some interesting ones. We just didn't want them to suffer with anything too crazy.

When I was younger, there were times when I wished I had another name. A name that I thought was cooler or prettier or whatever. But now that I am older I do like my name. Just like others have pointed out, our parents selected that name for us. My name is traditional in the family sense (Italian) and in the religious sense (after a saint). I have the formal name of it, but usually go by the common nickname for it. Think Elizabeth=Betty. (not my name but an example). ❤

I, too, have a very traditional 50's first & middle name. I have always been called by the "nickname" for my first name, and it's a little too cute-sy for me. I tried to get people to call me the full version in high school...the girls would, the boys wouldn't!
When I first went to work, in the offices of a large company, there were 5 of us with the same name! We had to go by our last names.
Always wished my parents had chosen to call me by my middle name, which is Lynne. Still very tradtional, but more "adult" in my opinion.

Love my first name. No changing for me.

I have an uncommon name, while growing up I wanted to change it to Alizabeth. A normal name with an usual twist I guess. Now I appreciate my unique name. I get excited when I come in contact with someone who has the same name. What does drive me crazy is that it is constantly misspelled and mispronounced by almost everyone. I don't even correct people anymore and now don't even notice the mispronounciation.

I was named after my paternal grandmother. I was the only Carmela I knew, except for grandma aged ladies even though I went to an Italian school.
I didn't like my name when I was a child, and always went by Carmie. As an adult, I like my name and would never change it.

I am also a Susan Marie. Named after my Hungarian grandmother and my mother's middle name (first Margaret). I would not change it. Growing up I don't recall meeting another Susan and of course today it's not a name you come across.

My name is very traditional and I have a given middle name of a significant family member from my heritage. This is true for my siblings also. However, my nickname aometimes prevails and has always felt so right....guess what it is

I don't have a middle name, my very first job a co-worker never heard of such a thing and said everyone should have a middle name, so she gave me 'Marie' ever since then she and everyone starting calling me Ann-Marie, the name stuck and even my family will once in a while call me Ann-Marie.
