Re: IPAD Email Password Compromised Message

@cheriere

I'd be very leary if that email was from Apple.  Years ago, my spouse fell for that email SCAM! It was a real mess ....

I'd disregard it.  Apple never reaches out to customers to my knowledge.

Re: IPAD Email Password Compromised Message

@homedecor1 it wasn't an email.  It was a message from her device, which is an iPad.  iPads send messages through banners.

Thank you.🌸.   They didn't send an email, but there was a pop up message whenever I first got on the forum today.  Usually, I don't log on the forum until it actually asks me to.  Sometimes, I can go for days before it asks me.  That's what had me nervous.  I didn't have to log on or put my password in, but was scared the next time it asks me to I might get this message pop up again.  I wondered if I had to change my email, how on earth would I be able to recover my account here at the forum.

@cheriere, have you gone to your settings? Then check passwords? At the top of your passwords there will be a Security Recommendation section.

Re: IPAD Email Password Compromised Message

Not iPads but I just read about a new phishing attack on iPhones and wanted to mention it in case anyone has it come up on their phones soon:

"Apple users are being targeted by an elaborate and annoying phishing scam that aims to change their password and lock them out of their devices, according to a new report from Krebs on Security. In some cases, the scammers have even called individuals and pretended to be Apple Support.

The scam purportedly begins with a barrage of system notifications asking the Apple user to reset their Apple ID password, Krebs on Security explained. Because the messages received are system notifications, users can’t do anything else with their phones until they approve or deny each request. The attack doesn’t end there, though.

Even if users deny all the password reset requests—one user reported receiving more than one hundred requests on X, formerly known as Twitter—scammers have an ace up their sleeves. Parth Patel, a startup founder, said he received a call from a person claiming to be from Apple Support 15 minutes after he denied all the password reset requests he received. The number they called from was Apple’s official support number, which he later confirmed was a spoof, a process by which bad actors can trick caller ID into displaying a different name or phone number."

Ugh. If we have to have scammers I wish they would go back to being a Prince who's going to give us millions of dollars and we can make go "poof" with a simple delete LOL.

That sounds sketchy. I've not run across this.

@cheriere

A few months ago I called Apple for a different reason, I asked  if there was anyway someone could hack into my iPad, the answer was no.

Fifteen years of using Apple products I've been safe.

Change your password now!  It may have been pushed to the dark web or hacked if you searched and clicked on something by accident.

It's only a huge deal if you ignore the message.
