I MIGHT HAVE ANSWER FOR SOME SLOW SHIPMENTS

[ Edited ]

once in a while I order a special Gingerbread from Grasmere, in the Lake District in England. It is toss between a "biscuit and a cake". The shipping wasn't that bad, and I would stock up, and freeze. Today I recieved notice they have regretfully had to cease shipments to America. It's Not just that the shipping costs became now prohibative this month. The main reason is ...packages are being held in warehouses too long. Warehouses in the US.  Sometimes days, and tracking was hit or miss . Of course they have a perishable product, so time is more of a concern.

got me thinking. We all know about tariffs, that's a given.  But the hold ups in US warehouses may be the reason for delays we are experiencing on some items. They have to go through customs and everything is backed up. Not only items that come from other countries, but US items stocked here might. Experience delays as well, due to total back up.  And lack of extra workers.  This also might explain some the weird tracking I have been getting lately.  Just a thought.

Are you referring to parkin?

I used to love that stuff.

Very interesting about the warehouse issue.  It may affect other perishable imports.

@Bookplate   hi!!  Not sure what you mean about, parkin.

anyway, the owner of the business, Grasmere Old Fashioned Gingerbread, said packages from their shop in England were not arriving on time as directed and paid for, to insure freshness.  They ship all packages 2-3 day, but they have been sitting in warehouses too long.  They don't bake a customers order til day before order, then ship next morning.  They want the gingerbread to arrive with 5 days after taken out of oven.  Although I keep in fridge for over a week. Their gingerbread is a thick cookie to me.  Shaped like a craham cracker.  It is just different, nothing like it in states.

For more information about the warehouse problem search for UPS is 'disposing of' U.S.-bound packages over customs paperwork problems.

That particular title is from MSN but the story is available through dozens of platforms.

@shoekitty Thanks for the description.  It doesn't sound like Yorkshire parkin after all, which is a moist type of gingerbread, but it does sound good.  And now all I am thinking about is gingerbread....

Sorry for your disappointment.  It reminds me of the logistics problems many of us experienced with orders during the pandemic.

Re: I MIGHT HAVE ANSWER FOR SOME SLOW SHIPMENTS

Tariffs seem to have created chaos in international commerce.  As soon as they figure them out, they change, always increasing.

Imagine being a retail buyer trying to make decisions on what to order knowing the price may increase substantially by the time an item ships,  not knowing if the price point is too high to be sellable.

The whole situation must give those involved ulcers.

@Bookplate  maybe it is.  The recioe is 170 years old I am trying to post photos, but the Q says all photos I enter are too big. The "gingerbread" is thick, maybe as thick as 2 pieces of graham cracker. It has a heavy crumb on top, similar to the way graham cracker pie crust looks the gingerbread is slightly soft inside but it breaks like a cracker

@shoekitty

I googled your bread and a recipe came up on Tik Tok. Have never been on that site before but it was easily accessible.

@rockygems123   thank you for looking.  I have researched it as well, and all the ones I googled are not for the type their gingerbread.  However, I did find one online from England, and she converted it for me to our measurements. It does take a long time. Just the sitting time. Hard to discribe without photo, but more like a cracker. most recipes are more like for flatter brownie type.
