@JeanLouiseFinch I had a close friend from work who was very creative.  She could sew, do woodworking, and make beautiful stained glass items.   For my birthday one year she made me something similar.  She passed away a couple of years ago from cancer and I just treasure it.  It reminds me of her every time I look at it.  I think you chose a very thoughful and heartfelt gift.

Some cultures believe that, when you are visted by a cardinal, it is symbolic of a loved one who has passed and is there to communicate with you or offer protection and guidance. 

Sort of like a guardian angel.

I still had my parents but was across the country when I was taken in by a widowed great aunt.  Such a gift.
