Bottom line... I mentored and helped young man a few years back hired him to work on my computer. He opened up his own company and I continued to support him. He recently changed out two computers for my home (brand new). No problem. I paid him big bucks by my "retired standards." After it was all said and done I asked him a few questions by email. He ranted at me for taking up his time and he thought I should be charged. Mind you this is a new system to me... Windows 10 and I am in need of some instruction with some problems.
What would you all do. At this point should I just find someone else and where to look.
Are they all this money- profit driven. And no, no grandchildren within easy reach or neighbors to help me.
Thought of Geek Squad but not sure their cost either.

What do you mean by "changed out"?

Well, how often were you contacting him with your questions?
Was it every day?
Multiple times a day?
That does get real old, real fast, especially when one is trying to get their business off of the ground.
It looks like you were looking for free help with your computer, and I'm sorry, but his time and knowledge is worth $.
It's like when someone is at a dinner party, and they find out that one of the guests is a doctor,
Suddenly, everyone is trying to get some free medical advice about every ache and pain that they have.
Maybe you can take a computer class at an adult education, or community center, senior center, where they will have more time and patience to answer all of your multiple questions.

"changed out" = replaced with new computers.

There are many options for learning a new operating system. It's not typical that the people you hire to set up your new computer include teaching you the OS in the price. Get a book on windows 10 or google your questions.

@bonnielu Post your questions on the board. Someone here will probably be able to help.
My husband uses Windows10 and is pretty good at tech stuff.

Anyone with a business in their particular field, expects to be compensated for their expertise.
That's why it's a business, not a hobby.
I would maybe check with friends/family and see if they have used someone that they would recommend.
You could also look for recommendations on Angie's List for your area.
If neither of those suggestions work for you, personally I would prefer to use a reputable company like Geek Squad.
No matter who you use, unless it's family or a 'friend', you will be expected to pay for their services.
If your problem is learning to use Windows 10, there are many tutorials, etc. available online, use Google.

I sympathize with you; we could use more of those type of computer services. If it was more than one or two easily answered questions, I would consider paying for it and get a quote for his time. I know someone who uses geek squad and is pleased with the service for setting up a new computer and printer.

I 100% agree with you.
Just because someone comes out and helps you to set up your computer system, does NOT mean that they are at your beck and call 24 hours a day in perpetuity.

@Plaid Pants2 also had a good idea to check for computer classes in your area, specifically on Windows 10 if that's your problem.
