We just spent over 2 hours with Medicare to enroll in Part D.  A poke in the eye with a sharp object might have been preferred.  She told us that the above was the least expensive @ 31 and $34 premiums/month.  All of our medications would cost $0 before and after deductibles.

I told her that both of us take a medication that the manufacturer is currently providing free of charge.  She said I would have to call those manufacturers to inquire how they would be handled.

Does anyone here use this company for prescription coverage?  Are there other companies I should look into?

I can't believe this has to be done every year...bleh!  I know there are seniors who can't do this for themselves and might not have anyone to do it for them.  What do they do?

@monicakm  They call Senior Services.  A broker will come to their home to help them for FREE!  At least that is how it's done in Joisey.

I just changed my part D insurance. The choice depends on the zip code that you live it, and the medications that you take. I put my medications in the Medicare Website, then pick the plan that is most cost-effective for me and that covers all of my medications.

I have been on Medicare 2.5 years and I am on my second Part D plan.

For next year I am changing plans again. I think I got Wellcare. It covered all of my medications. I have a $0 premium but a hefty deductible at over $600 for the year.

Then I am covered well. I have 2 medications that cost over $600 per month, so I will hit that deductible in January.

In 2025, I had United Health Care, my monthly premium was $92 and I do not think that I had a deductible.

Well care will cost me around $1500 this year for my medications, the most expensive plan on the list would have cost me over $15,000 next year.

So long, story short, the plan you choose depends on where you live and what medications you take.

Re: Humana Value RX

[ Edited ]

I think you will be fine with Humana Rx, the cheapest one.  I don't take lot's of meds, and If I need once in awhile I use good RX coupons or search Canada, which is not often.

I just stuck with what I've had the past two years Humana. It's a real hassle.

conit - you explained this so well and so efficiently!

Part D definitely depends on what pharmacy you choose and what

your medications are.

I'm starting Medicare in January.  I don't take meds, but an insurance broker came to the house (no charge, no income limits).  I chose BCBS.  It will be much cheaper than my plan I had from 63, when I retired, to I hit Medicare.  My SO is on several meds and he is in a local hospital plan.  $19 a month.  The charge just came through and now it's 5.10?  Crazy.  We are in PA.  This broker reviews plans annually, and suggested SO, keep this one for next year.

I would think most states have these options with a broker.  He didn't seem to push one plan or another.  It was very easy. He was hear less than an hour.

@monicakm #1 it does not have to be done every year unless you feel the premium has gotten too high.

#2 does that premium quoted include the penalty for not having a Part D since you first became eligible for Medicare?
