How to quickly get guest ready?

My husband told me last night he invited a friend to spend the night with us tomorrow night.

What do you do to make your house guest ready (When you are a "Having a guest sort of house.")?

My house is clean & comfortable. For me. It is set up for us to live in. With my crafts everywhere. Organized, but there.

So what is your plan when you are getting a guest?

I make sure the bathrooms are clean and the guest bed has freshly washed sheets.

Re: How to quickly get guest ready?

We have never had any one other than immediate family as overnight guests.  All of our friends are local or within driving distance of our home.

I have a two story house with all bedrooms upstairs.  I keep our first level, and the guest bathroom neat and tidy so if anyone pops by, I am pretty much always prepared.

Our guest bedroom is always ready to go.  I double check supplies such as soap, shampoo, etc.  There's always extra pillows and blankets in the closet.  I may dust and vacuum (depending when it was last done).  I like to find out what they like to east/snack on so I have some in the house.

I hide the clutter, liquor and prescription drugs, LOL.  Just kidding, but invariably when I look around with a fresh eye when expecting guests I see clutter than I have been ignoring or pushing around.  And, I do neaten up the bathroom sink to hide some of the daily stuff that I like to have within reach but which creates a cluttered appearance.  And, I will put out fresh linens and towels, dust and vacuum, make sure there are plenty of snacks/fruit.

Fresh bed linens, and fresh towels is about all I would really have to do.....We have a 2 story so all of our bedrooms are upstairs and our house is always picked up and clean( I hate clutter and mess), so not much else would have to be done....

We don't have an en suite guest room, but the bathroom is right across the hall, so very convenient for guests!

Re: How to quickly get guest ready?

Since we're retired our guest bedroom and bath are always ready and the rest of the house is never that dirty, it's just the two of us now, so if anyone comes last minute, it's not a big deal.  When I was working and raising children, that would've been a different story!

Same here, my home is always picked up and neat.   However, my DH would never throw that at me last minute, or probably ever, LOL!     I don't particularly care to have people stay over as I like my privacy and I dislike cleaning up after they have left!    He did that once many years ago for a friend that was traveling from SC........and he never did it again.  That's all I'll say..........the only open door concept for me would be my adult kids.

Re: How to quickly get guest ready?

We don't live on the second floor...the kids' rooms are guest rooms now....a lick and a promise with a dust rag if someone comes and ready to go. Our room is on the 1st floor and off-limits to visitors as is my studio and DH's study.

I do have enough time to keep the downstairs vacuumed a few times a week and dusted once....Molly's scared of the stairs, so only puffs of hair downstairs.

Kitchen and baths need to be clean just because that's me.
