How much to tip Meijer's grocery delivery people

Since my mom died last month, I have to take care of my mentally handicapped sister. Since she is legally blind and has trouble walking, I can't take her into the grocery stores with me, and she can't be left alone. I came across Meijer's offer of home delivery for $49 for a year and am seriously considering signing up. But, if I do, I'm not sure what would be an appropriate amount to tip. Should you base it on the total amount spent or on how many items you're buying. Would appreciate hearing others' opinions on this. Thanks.

Tipping is not required, just a nice gesture!

I live in an area where there are lots of retired people and some don't tip at all.  Those who use it just for convenience, tip accordingly.

They get paid for the delivery so the tip is not their only income.  It is up to you and the amount of the order.

Best money I ever spent!

Re: How much to tip Meijer's grocery delivery people

I have had Shipt deliver from Meijer 4 times so far.

The gals (all older) have brought everything in, put my items in the fridge and freezer.

I order large amounts of water and they drag it all in cheerfully.

They call me to make substitutions and when they are on their way.

They have gotten my mail and have just been wonderful. Very personable.

I spend between 85 and 130.

I have left positive feedback for each one and have given them $20.00 each.

They seem thrilled.  So am I.

I have called Shipt when I can't figure out the process(computer) and have raved about their service.

I  bought chicken one time and opened it to cook, 2 days later.  It smelled.  I called Shipt and they offered to bring fresh, that day.   I said no, that was ok and they credited my account.

Can't say enough good things.

I order home delivery occasionally from shoprite for my mother.  They will take it into the kitchen, etc. If you let them.  My mother is worried about her cats getting out, so she has the guy put it inside the door.  She tips $10.

First I am so glad you are tipping. Those people work hard. The orders have to be 100%correct and they have to drive in all conditions. It is not a pleasant job for many reasons. Please tip on the amount of items.  On the other hand, when one thinks of the time and effort saved by the customer it is well worth a nice tip. Companies are paying almost 60 cents a mile just for car usage ALONE. All that to say that 5 bucks would be an absolute minimum IMHO and really should be more!!!

We get a large Vons delivery grocery order each week and tip 10.00.  Some people don't tip, and the drivers seem appreciative.

I think it depends on if you have a lot of heavy items and how many bags they have, are they bringing it all the way in or just leaving it at the door.

I know my m-i-l only gives him $5.  I know it's two weeks worth of groceries, I don't know if he brings it all the way in or just leaves it at the door for them.

Strange, people who have problem no tipping a hairdresser or manicurist think tipping the person who lugs your groceries up your stairs is optional.  That delivery fee goes to the store, it's not a tip or gratuity and those people don't make what hairdressers make.  Yes, indeed.  You most certainly DO tip them.  You often have the ability to add the tip when you order online.  I like that option but I fear that those tips might be shared....to make up for the non tippers.  I want my tip to go the person who took my bags to the kitchen and put them up on the counter for me, I tip in cash.  $3 for a small order,  $5 for larger order that included all the heavy stuff like bottled water, detergent, 2 liter sodas.

I think what percentage of the order you would tip depends on if it is big and heavy and also how much you are able to tip.  If your income is low and it is hard for you to make ends meet, tip a few dollars.

If you have a higher income level tip more and be generous!  Do something nice to help your heart.

It's all about being considerate and appreciative and what you are able to do to help others!
