I was bored today so I went thru my Christmas totes in the garage to see what I really no longer wanted, sadly, only 1 thing will be leaving...but it's a start. 

I like picks and stems, so I have a lot of those, as they start looking old I pitch them, but I have a large fireplace mantle and two cupboard tops to decorate for winter/Christmas.

Throughout my adult life I was good at purging and also a little too good at buying.  That came to an end with retirement and living on social security and some savings.  Unless something is broken, torn, worn out, etc., I am not getting rid of anything.

I'm going through many years' collection of office and school supplies. Some can be donated to a children's shelter. Some will just be re-cycled. I'm sayng "NO!" to purchasing any new school supplies -- no matter how good the "deal"!

I'm just the opposite - With retirement and SS as my only income (not counting DH's income), I'm not buying very much any more. 

(I'm also getting rid of things and clothing that I don't use or wear within a year)

@Solar Is My Name   My answer is "a lot". We're in the midst of getting ready to downsize to an apartment for the first time in 55 yrs. of marriage and our first apartment. There are piles of items to donate, sell or now boxes for a fall yard sale.

I collect clothes, small furniture, and personal care items for those who need them. A charity picks them up every few months.

@Shanus Isn't it amazing how much we collect in many years of living in the same place!  We are looking to possibly downsize radically (as it seems you are doing) in a few years; thus I am getting rid of things every day.

New donation box started yesterday with 4 items, then found 5 old phones and chargers to recycle at Best Buy.

Hoping for more out the door by the end of week.

I've had two items listed on eBay for forever. One sold a few months ago. And one just sold a week ago. So I listed 18 more things and have sold 5 of them. These are brand new items from our last house that I've had stored in a guest room closet. I've donated and donated before we moved, but am delighted in making a little bit of money!
