If you like your bed high like me , a great helper to get in and out of bed can be found on Amazon. My DD got me one a few months ago and I thought I'd use it for a while - but now I've decided it's the best thing that's happened since sliced bread for me. It's called '' Step2Bed Rails''....It's very sturdy and assist greatly getting in and out of bed, expecially if your bed is a little higher than most and also have more than a few ''years'' on you....one, if not the best purchase from Amazon...love it.

I got my mother one a few years ago. She's gone now but we have it in our attic in case one of us needs it someday. I do not have a high bed tho. I'm 5'

I also highly recommend it. I got one for my husband and it worked great.

@sarahpanda That's a great idea. Thank you for sharing. Especially, since I added a topper my bed is even higher. Right now I have a wooden footstool but someday may look into this.

I had a solid oak 4 poster high bed and it was great until I got old. I donated the frame when I needed a new mattress earlier this year.
I bought a platform bed and good mattress and am in heaven. I can get in without having to climb and it's super comfortable and supportive. At my age, I can't afford to fall.

@UpNorthGorgy ...You won't regret buying it, for sure !!

I bought a new mattress and bed frame three years ago. Something that was a must (including the mattress comfort) was it being high enough but not so high that I couldn't easily get in & out of it unassisted.
Many mattresses today are ridiculously low....almost to the floor. On the other hand, I don't like being up so high and I need to go too often during the night.

Truth! And it is especially important to express the love in your heart to the recipient.
I actually bought steps for our aging cats a few years ago, and am getting them out again for a couple of our older kitties, just to make their life easier. And I've noticed my oldtimer Fred (we've had him for 12 years but are not sure of his actual age) as he is becoming more unsteady and frail. I put a set of steps for him to get into our bed but need to add one by the couch.
@Desertdi That is perfect! Love the rails and support to offer an assist and steady it. That is great.

Getting up in a dark room would be an issue for me, I think it would be a hazzard more than a help
