When DH and I were first maried, we rented a little house out in the country across from a pasture and lake on a dirt road.  

I sewed, and kept my machine in its rectangle box with the lid cut on three sides but left attached on one side.

We were sitting on the couch watching tv when out of the corner of my eye,

I saw a mouse run down the wall across from us!

I screamed and climbed up on the top of the couch, and DH got out of the mouse which ran up under my couch!  I was screaming bloody murder and he tried to find said mouse.  He started opening the drawers of the end table closest to me and the mouse jumped up out of the top drawer!  

He finally got the mouse cornered in the sewing machine box, but it jumped up and hit the top, held on by only one side, and it was on again!

We finally got that darn thing out and didn't open the side door any more!

As many of you know, I taught for thirty six years.  Because everyone placed such emphasis on test scores instead of actual instruction, every time we got grades ready for report cards we had to write a student's name, their failing number grade, the parent's phone number, and results of our call.

I was in our dept office which, on that afternoon had an open outside door, calling my "failures".  I had on a skirt and high heel leather boots.  I looked down and crawling across both of my feet was a mouse!  The dam* thing went back and forth across my feet while I tried to explain to the parent that their son needed to pass my course!  I thought I'd never get off that phone!

We live in the mountains, in the woods on a former golf course.  I have lady slippers and Jack in the pulpit growing off my back yard.  There is a stream and two small ponds with wild irises growing at the bottom of our property.  We also have every hawk in the county, it seems.

I was on the deck in the back, reading on a nice spring day several years ago.  The dog was looking over the edge of the deck down onto our turn around and started the most odd growling.  I got up and looked down, and there was a gigantic black snake going into our garage door!  The circumference was easily eighteen inches! We left the door open several hours and she left!  DH was sure she was  the reason we didn't have mice in the basement. 

I named her "Esmeralida, and she now cleans the basement regularly, and I don't go down unless It's when she's gone!!!
