UPDATE ON ED'S B.V. REHABILITATION
Good morning friends. It's me, Patricia. It's been a while since I've updated you on Ed's rehab services. He is still in rehab and we just received a letter regarding a meeting with his care team to be held Wednesday, November 12. We assume we will receive information on his progress to date and hope they will give us a pending date for discharge! Hoping.....
Ed is making slow but steady progress. To date he has had rehab for eight days, some morning and afternoon sessions, some only one time per day. Upper body rehab is pretty good. However, lower body is difficult considering his neuropathy and a recent compression fracture in the lower spine with intense pain. Still, he is motivated and tries his best and never refuses what they ask of him.
Yesterday when I visited he was cheerful and upbeat after his treatment session. (Some days are not that good, and his pain is very obvious.) Mid-afternoon I went home for several hours and returned in early evening. Therapy dogs visited last evening and he really enjoyed them. It brought back memories of our own therapy dog visits over many years.
I visit several times every day .... morning and/or afternoon treatment sessions, lunch, supper, in his room and all around the complex. Thankfully, he has his Jazzy wheelchair, and can go anywhere he wishes during his free time.
Ed is not allowed to transfer independently from bed to wheelchair or to stand independently. He is a fall risk and requires at least one and sometimes two people to help him. He is allowed to reposition himself in bed by pulling himself up or in laying down, or moving side to side.
Right now I'm doing laundry and plan to visit before lunch and into the mid-afternoon today. Hoping he has another exceptionable day ... just like yesterday! ![]()
Thank you all for the birthday greetings. I told him about your posts. Despite everything he had an enjoyable birthday celebration with cake, balloons, visits and many beautiful birthday cards.

I wonder what happened to @AnikaBrodie 's post? I was looking forward to hearing from her with how Ed, her, and Alfie are doing.
I started to type and for some unknown reason it posted before I finished. Not sure why. So I deleted it and started a new post. I hope it's here.

@lynnie61 ..losing a loved one at any age is difficult. Hope your Dad and family find comfort in memories.
@AnikaBrodie ....Continued speedy recovery wishes sent to Ed. Hopefully slow and steady will win the race! I love hearing that he is positive and has such a good attitude.
He sounds like a great guy.

@Sweet Caroline 1 A chance of snow is forecasted for Saturday. It may stick to the grass but not to roadways so I am not too concerned about it. Lows for us upper teens to 20 with highs during the day only the low 30s. It so darn windy that it is even colder. Brrrr. I am not ready for this yet.
Hey there @Sassy7356 and All, Your area doesn't get too much Fall weather. You seem to be the last for the Spring to sprung and the first for the winter to arive early. I remember you saying that you like the colder weather. I do too. The wooly worms have predicted that we will have a heavy winter. I saw that on tv this morning. And that 2026 is going to be the last year for the Farmer's Almanac. It's sad that so many things that we grew up with are going away. I hope they don't do away with indoor plumbing!
Big Hugs! ![]()

For @Tissyanne
@Sweet Caroline 1 , love this.
black cats have my heart.
@Tissyanne I once knew a woman who had a Gr. Pyrenees as I did at the time, Her dog passed, so she came over to be around mine, I also had a beautiful black Lab/Husky mix. She told me she had always been afraid of black dogs, then she met Meeka, and a few days later, she ended up adopting two black dogs, lol.
I think many people are afraid of black cats because of the dumb things said about them. When I was in rescue, I kept the two black cats that no one adopted, their loss, my gain. I have had many black cats throughout my life, usually they were fluffy, but as an adult, all had short hair.
@mousiegirl and All, I never had considered the color of an animal when it came into my life. I love all of them, just as the Lord made them. I've had black cats and a lot of black and part black dogs. More Love than I can express.

@Sweet Caroline 1 Right. I never had an option as they were all rescues except one, so whichever needed me at the moment, was here to stay, including and mostly, cats.
There is a law allowing one residence to have no more than three dogs, always had two at a time, but no one knows how may cats one has, and I had plenty during rescue. The cats that weren't adopted, stayed. Once DD came along, I had to bow out of rescue and take care of her and all the critters that I had.
@mousiegirl and All, Your post reminds me to tell you all that my sister reports that the kittens are now all over the place. She says that they are fuzzy and darling. One is grey, the rest are grey tabbies ranging in colors from dark to light. Now mama cat has them back in the bedroom. I guess when she took a break, they followed her out and explored. ![]()
