I see nothing ~ absolutely nothing ~ wrong with a dog being on the sofa! What's wrong with people? And a shock mat??? OMG! That's a horrible thing to have for your dogs! Shame on you!

In defense of @SilleeMee  What I've learned about her is that she is a big dog lover who has adopted many older dogs. I doubt very seriously that she's trying to or is causing them harm.

This can be a safe place to discuss and learn if we make it that way.

@qvc chick  - When my in-laws had a dog and whenever they had to leave the house, they would turn up the sofa cushions and pillows to deter their dog from getting on it, don't know if this will help any in your situation.

Re: HOW TO KEEP DOG OFF SOFA !!!

I got tired of putting on and removing couch covers on my light colored living room sofa. I would take them off before having guests and for washing. Instead I put 2 large trays on the seat cushions which I can take off and put on the coffee table. My dogs don't jump up on them and it is fast and easy for me.  Don't feel sorry for my pooches as we have 2 leather couches that we use that they are welcomed on for naps and cuddling.

You had me till the part about coasters ( on wood even?)
Frankie Doodle sleeps with me every night. Sometimes she gets hot and lays on the bathroom floor. The Dingo has never slept with us. About as long as we can keep him on the beds is 10 minutes. While he is very loyal and protective he's quite the loner. The only thing that has brought him out his shell to be a little bit more people-oriented is the arrival of Miss Frankie.

@monicakm

Yes, I understand why some people use coasters for say, antique furniture with a finish that can't withstand the rings of condensation without being ruined.

I was just saying that I don't have that type of furniture in my home by design. I've painted most all of my furniture and sealed it with polycrylic so I can put anything on it without worry.

I come from a long line of people who save things for occasions that never or hardly ever happen and even as a kid I thought that was a waste and vowed I would do things differently....I would have a home I could be totally comfortable in and use the good stuff!Woman Wink

It sounds like Miss Frankie is just what your sweet Dingo needed to bring him out of his shell a little, sweet!

It's funny how each dog has their own unique personalities....

Re: HOW TO KEEP DOG OFF SOFA !!!

It sounds like you have a pillow problem, not a dog problem.  Try putting your pillows in a basket or other room while you are away and then cover the sofa with a blanket.  The dog might be into pillows so give him a pillow in his bed.  Next sofa should be a tight back sofa with just a couple of toss pillows.

Unbelievable that people cant read my original question!

IT IS NOT SO MUCH THAT HE IS ON THE SOFA - I KNOW I CAN PUT DOWN A BLANKET.

BUT HE IS RUINING THE COUCH CUSHIONS!!  AND MY EXPENSIVE THROW PILLOS.  THE COUCH CUSHIONS ARE GETTING SUCKUN IN.

IT IS A $3000 SOFA!!   IT IS NOT JUST A QUESTION ABOUT PUTTING A BLANKET DOWN.  I ALREADY KNOW HOW TO DO THAT.

HE HAS A HUGE MEMORY FOAM DOG BED THAT WAS VERY EXPENSIVE.  HE LAYS IN IT WHEN I AM HOME.  BUT WHEN I AM AT WORK HE GOES RIGHT ON THE SOFA AND IT IS GETTING RUINED

I did not see in your original post ,it is your back cushions you were speaking of,we all were trying to help you.

@qvc chick  Yeah, that's it.  Scold everyone for not answering your question to your liking.  Ok, so maybe not everyone understood it was your back cushions that are being mangled. Now we know.

You wanna keep your dog off the sofa?  Put him in a cage, how about that?
