Your dogs  are beautiful. My dogs laid where they wanted to. I think they just missed someone at home with them.  @threecees

I see nothing ~ absolutely nothing ~ wrong with a dog being on the sofa! What's wrong with people? And a shock mat??? OMG! That's a horrible thing to have for your dogs! Shame on you!

No sofa is more precious than my pet. When I bought a sofa, I chose one that was durable so it would accommodate a dog or weighty person. A pet is not a second class family member.

Re: HOW TO KEEP DOG OFF SOFA !!!

I understand people are different and feel differently about things. Your house your rules.

I just know in my case I can't imagine a world where such a valued and loved member of my family, my dog, wouldn't be allowed on my couch, on my bed, on my head if he wanted.

It's his home too and I want him to be comfy and I also want to be close to him and snuggle as much as possible for both of our benefits.

And If my sofa was so precious that it couldn't withstand my dog being on it then it wouldn't be in my house....

On a side note....I also think coasters are silly and saving the good china (or anything) for company is such a waste. My home is a place to live not a showroom....

Again your house your rules.....but I don't get it.....

Lost one of mine too and would give anything to have him back and on the sofa with me.

Like anything else, training work, especially when young, being consistent, if important to you.

I don't have too much of an issue as can't see outside. My boy prefers to lay on a blanket by the sliding glass door.  He used to toss couch pillows when left alone. Luckily I haven't had a dog chew furniture or shred pillows.

I have the covers actually Q sells.  Couch, love seat and recliner. Bought a new set recently on Big Deal.  I changed colors. They wash up well, last years. I am the sloppy one as eat in living room.

@jlkz   No, we have only one wall where the sofa can be placed.  I don't think she is ruining the back pillows...she just smashes the feathers.  Weekly I unzip and do my best to re distribute the feathers.  She is 10 years old, no retraining for her.

Re: HOW TO KEEP DOG OFF SOFA !!!

Everyone deals with this differently. My dog's bed IS the sofa! He's 130 lbs. and any dog bed big enough for him was a tripping hazard for us--no matter where we put it. So we just gave up, and bought a cover for the sofa.

He ripped the fabric off the arm of the sofa we had when we first got him. I bought a fairly inexpensive fabric sofa to replace it, but even with a cover it got very dirty (he likes to roll around on it)--beyond where I could get it clean, plus yes, dog smell goes deep, lol!

In June, I caved and bought a faux-leather sofa that got very good reviews from people with pets. Wow--faux leather has come a long way. This thing is very soft, fairly attractive, very comfortable, and best of all, it wipes clean. It would not be my first choice, but it works for us right now.

I do still keep it covered, but can quickly remove the cover and give it a wipe if we're having company.
