I haven't read all the comments, but my thought is that they should be made of bleachable white fabric.  My friends who are making them are using print fabrics so that they're cute.

 

They look good for us to wear for personal comfort - but medical staff by me has resorted to bandanas so these have to be better.

My cousin is a nurse at a hospital.  She said they had a donation of masks.  They keep about 1,000 and threw away the rest.  She said the ones they kept will be offered to people that maybe visiting the hospital.
