More than wonderful that people have volunteered to make/sew masks at home. How sanitary would they be for medical personal to be wearing?

They are not.

A few people did it here and the hospitals had to refuse them.

@Spacrazy   Uh, who will receive these possibly contaminated masks? Medical staff? People trying to protect themself from getting sick?

Health facilities can run these items through their autoclave systems to sterilize them

@Shanus   Really.  Anything can be sterilized if it is needed.

There are different methods for doing this, including steam, gas, or irradiation

I'd be more worried about their effectiveness or lack thereof.  I heard a doctor say anything other than the regulation mask is like trying to block a broken dam with a chain link fence.

We have a group of artists who are busily making very artistic masks.  I laughed.

@Shanus Sorry I can’t answer your questions. Yes, the community effort toward this need is outstanding but I don’t know of any medical facility or personnel in our area that have accepted them.

My knowledge is limited to my immediate family members that are “hands on” patient care and all in different hospitals, surgical and trauma centers.

What will help are prayers and any and all are welcome.
