According to the rules, I've been correct all of these years, too. lol I go by what sounds the best. I guess I forgot there are rules for this.

"I seen" instead of "I saw" drives me crazy. Also "me and him" went instead of "he and I" went. Just a couple of examples.

@Patriot3 Yep, they are like nails on a chalkboard when I hear them. There's a show on TV I watch, I won't mention the name, that interviews people and follows them on a life changing journey so to speak. They range in age from late teens to 40's, 50's. All of them say that! "Me and her" "me and him" "me and my sister" and so on. None of them get it right. And they're from all over the country, so it couldn't be a regional thing. I think it's unfortunate there is not enough emphasis on correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

I think one of the reasons for the poor grammar (and spelling) is that people don't read like they used to, often they read online and often the online English is horrid. As a child I read everything I could get my hands on, my great aunt Marie raised me to read and to speak properly. . .I loved my English literature class....

I often wonder what's being taught in school or at home.

i am from California, and like other parts of US..we can have our own language. lol. But , I know here ,one of the rudest things anyone can do is correct someone's grammar in public, or if they aren't directly related. I think even with your own kids, I would never do it on front of anyone. But at home in a kind way. It puts people off and hurts self confidence and it can be shaming . But, there are always those that do. people hate it. People that do that in front of others regularly always look small to me.
i know, I speak French, Spanish, as well as native English. There are English words, that are derived from Spanish or French that I may use Spanish or French pronunciation on. Many people do. well, even in England they don't pronounce some words like we do. lol
I think if someone is talking, look at them..listen. I do notice when grammar is defiled, lol. Yes, I notice. But there are many thing in life that come first. Now if I was a speech coach, speak writer for someone. You bet they would be corrected.
for me one word I have become reluctant to say aloud is "charcuterie". lol. Charcuterie Boards in restaurants , and at home are the rage. I mangle the word. And I have a couple college degrees. My tongue doesn't like it..AND it's French. lol. I should know. I have to hold my breathe, think ...and then say it aloud , lol.

I wonder what's with people replying "thank you" to a "thank you".....
Doesn't anyone know how to say "You're welcome"...or the more modern "My pleasure"..........
