Re: Gordon Lightfoot RIP 5/1/23

I'm sad. I saw Lightfoot in concert 2 times and have listened to his music for 50 years.

[ Edited ]

@Mary Bailey Thank you for reporting this sad news to us.

Lightfoot was an icon in the 70's folk-rock era.  So many good songs and to his credit, he was a wonderful lyricist.  The words of his songs are the power that makes them lasting treasures.

Of course, The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald was a hit with fans of his style of folk music and nonfans alike. My favorites are Daylight Katy, Carefree Highway, and The Canadian Railroad Trilogy.  His version of "his own song" Early Morning Rain, which is so good that it has been recorded by many other artists is a gem. The Elvis Presley version may be the only one I like more and it is one of my favorite Elvis recordings.

I heard this first thing this morning. One of my favorite folk singers. We are losing so many of our age group. I have his hits on vinyl and cd. Thank you for the music. RIP

My Aunt had a cabin on Lake Superior and spent many summers there with the family. And my Uncle (her brother) also had one. They both lived in Michigan throughout the year.

She talked frequently about the song. It had quite an impact on her. And as a result of spending a week with her at the cabin - me too.

This is so sad. When I think of him I automatically think of the 70's. If You Could Read My Mind and of course, The Edmund Fitzgerald. I live in Wisconsin and that ship sank in 1975. I remember that very well. He had a wonderful voice, but he was a tremendous song writer and poet.

Been in love with this man and his music since I was 15 years old. Saw him in concert more than I can count or remember!

Pure magic.
