Re: Good Friends Are Like Springtime

@Sweet Caroline 1

Please don't worry about me but thanks. I will not do anything foolhardy. I have a shower but it has a high riser to step over to get in it. This home health care does not last forever and hopefully I will be able to put some weight on my foot before they leave. Jazmin and Sarah stop by frequently and I carry my phone on my scooter whenever I get up so I can call if I fall again. I knew you would get a laugh out of my mischievous Bijou. The helplessness really gets to me as I usually have my home in such order.

Yesterday I bought a Maranta plant (also known as Red Prayer) at the nursery.  Today I replanted it and watered it.  Now I am wondering when to water and how much to water.  Any advice?  My plant looks similar to the one below.  I have it near a west window in the sunroom.

@AnikaBrodie  Google has more detailed care guide.

To care for a Maranta (Prayer Plant), provide bright, indirect light, maintain consistently moist (but not soggy) soil, ensure high humidity, and keep temperatures between 60°F and 80°F (16°C and 27°C).

@hullie  I used one crutch to get into the bathtub where the shower is so that the weight was on the crutch which I put into the tub first. Aa good cane, which can be bought on amazon, would also work. there are also crutches.  I think it is good to have them around just in case.  I had them for the hip replacement, but later used them for a badly sprained ankle,. a badly injured knee, and again after the 2022 slide dwn the stairs.

@mousiegirl

I am being shown two ways to get into my shower but both are a bit precarious alone. One is on my scooter to a chair in the shower pulled up close to scooter outside shower....weight transfer by leaning and holding on to chair arms but it is very unsteady. They like me using arm strength lifting me over shower riser with a walker to a shower chair better but my strength not the best. I am hoping in a couple weeks I will be permitted partial weight on leg and I will be able to use my bed again. I am so tired of my recliner.
Thanks for the home rehabilitation article. I don't have a printer but I copied and posted to my phone. A lot of the mentions in it the nurse mentioned when encouraging me to try and prepare me to find rides to therapy.

I don't know how you used a lease on your dog when you were so unsteady . Bijou has definitely been a struggle to care for and keep disciplined.

 @hullie  I hope you can possibly find someone who can come daily to help you until your foot is healed.
   There are people who volunteer to drive people to medical appointments and pick them up. It's free! I did it once when I wasn't allowed to drive home after a cataract surgery. It was a kind lady who even offered to stay awhile. I made a donation to the group to help with gas.
   Your local hospital, Dr. or physical therapist might know of someone to help.
      I heard from my friend who broke her foot and has been in a walking boot since October. She had an appointment and it hasn't healed,and it  might require surgery. Bummer! I told her to call me whenever needed.
     Bijou is smart...glad you surprised him when he took advantage of you. Trainers sometimes use a squirt water bottle for bad behavior. I would slip on the water.  I'd have to use so much!  Take care!

    🦶🏻🚐🚕? 🐶 🙊🙉🙈

@1Snickers @There might be some public transportation I could use but getting up and down my garage steps without help might be a problem. When I went to the ER when I fell the doctor there said it looked like I might not need surgery, just heal with a boot or cast. The surgeon at the hospital ordered further X-rays and determined it needed surgery with pins. Otherwise I might be in the same situation as your friend with healing time. I sure hope my fractures are healing quickly and I am doing everything I can not to stress ankle.

@hullie I had no choice as DH was not about to get up in the middle of the night with the dogs.  Remmy never needed a leash to go out, but my girl did, she would have been off on an adventure if I hadn't used a leash, lol.

I realize now that since you cannot put weight on your foot, the crutches and cane would not work.  I would slide around in the beginning, but that is still putting some weight on each foot.

I can totally relate to the disciplining of a dog, Remmy was a Saint, very obedient, and I have mentioned my girl, obedience - what's that, she would say, lol.

Hang in there, life will be good again.  Remember, it took two years for me to now walk well without using a knee brace, hope that lasts, as long as I can stay on my feet and off the floor, lol.
