My kids have been full of advice for me since my spouse passed🤦‍♀️.

Love them for their concern but sometimes they don't realize I'm the mom and finally can make my own decisions after 51 years😊😊😊

@homedecor1 But the day may come when they need to make decisions for you--and I hope for your sake all of you will accept help if that happens.  It can be excruciating for your kids. People of course worry about the elder parent, but sometimes don't consider what it does to the kids and their families.

And I direct this to everyone reading, because people need to consider it and get ready before it happens.

Oh we've had that talk!  My boys have been visiting a lot and I have all my documents in order & have reviewed them with my kids.

I hope the day doesn't come soon BUT if it does I will take their advice.  Right now they want me to move back home although Im perfectly content with my life now.  They work and gd is grown -- not an option I would consider unless was necessary.

Thank you thou for the advice!

@homedecor1 I hope you will consider it soon enough to make it a good experience for all of you.  Just saying from experience.  I'm happy you have a place to go when you can though!  You are lucky!

did any of us listen to our parent's advice or follow it

My dad was very wise.  I would just sit and listen to him if I could get the peace to do it.  I lost him to a rare form of brain cancer at only 64.

Re: Giving Advice to Adult Children

It works better for me if I just listen. Now and then I say what I think but don't force my opinions. It's their life and sometimes life is the best teacher.
