@Love my grandkids ...............Yes I do try for my own peace of mind to forgive and I do pray for help with it.  But it is really hard and sometimes I dont want to forgive.  But I believe it is the best for me to continue trying.

@Imaoldhippie I give you lots of credit. I tried for years to forgive but I just can't. I've tried, I've really tried. As a believer maybe God forgave him. Maybe at some point he was sorry. But no sorrier than his family for what we went through.

@Shanus- I read this saying a long time ago and try to live by it.  Forgiving is not forgetting, it's letting go of the hurt.  It's hard to believe that the Rosh Hashanah/Yom Kippur will be here soon.

Re: Forgiveness

[ Edited ]

I read this many years ago and it helped me. I often refer back to it.

"Forgiveness involves a heart that cancels the debt but does not lend new money until

repentance occurs. A forgiving heart opens the door to any who knock but entry into the home (that is the heart) does not occur until the muddy shoes and dirty coat have been taken off if.

If true reconciliation is ever to take place, the offender must be sorry

This means that cheap forgiveness or "peace at any cost" that sacrifices honesty, integrity, and passion.....is not true forgiveness".

I can forgive...which I have (my sister).  She is mean, vindictive and forgets nothing..as she saw the instance(s) unfold.

What I do not do is have contact with her.

I'm in a similar situation. I've also forgiven my sister.

I struggle with what is real forgiveness. How distant can I be without it becoming unforgiving?

She has serious issues following a stroke and needs compassion. She cries about our lost relationship. I feel sad too but can't bring myself to do much. I know I won't trust her again. I'll have to figure it out.

@Love my grandkids WOW!Pretty harsh, but I'm sure you have good reason.I can't say anything but good from my very loving family. On the other hand,I've had my share of grief from my ex husband, but I think I'm starting to soften when thinking about him.
