DH and I are not retired....we are self employed and business is slow right now. We are home more than usual...like today, it's 3:00 and we are home for the day/weekend.
Do you and if married your dh just run for something to do...? I said to my dh, what now, and he said name it...he's game to do something. There is a good size estate sale about 20 minutes from the house, we could go there but there is not one single thing I need to buy, but was thinking it would be something to do.
We are not used to being home so early in the day, which is happening more and more often, and I am not sure what to do with all the extra time on my hands.....no comments about Covid please...I would have the same issue if covid was an issue or not.

Both DH and I are retired. Fortunately we are both homebody's and do not need to be entertained. We just do our own things....watch a lot of TV....internet....just enjoy not feeling like we need to be going or doing. We did THAT when we were working. Retirement is not having to have anything to do....that is OK.

@Mom2Dogs Most people, if they're smart, before they retire develop hobbies or interests to keep them occupied. It doesn't happen overnight but takes planning and perhaps some research.
Sometimes it nice to just get out and mingle with people at something like a garage or estate sale or take a ride in the country or visit a state park.

My hobbies are reading, knitting and listenting to classical music. I read the NY Times and Chicago Tribune on line and do the crossword puzzles. DH's hobbies are reading, investing and planning for vacations hopefully in the not too distant future. In our opinions it's amazing how quickly the time goes by.

@Mom2Dogs I really get it! I'm retired, and DH is spending more time at home.If we didn't have some regular activities, we'd go crazy. We're both working on books. DH already has one published (local history), but he has to update the online version. He also started a Facebook daily posting about local items of historical interest. I am doing a family recipe book for my children which I will have published just for them. After that, I will be transcribing letters written by my parents when they were in mission service in Ethiopia in the '40s. The local Mennonite historical society is waiting for them. If all else fails, we have tons of things to sell on eBay. We already went through the cellar to sort what we have to sell.

@Kachina624 ...In the early years of our business (nearly 40+years now) there was very little time to develop hobbies. It takes many hours a week to get a business up and running, including working every Saturday for years.
Many nights dh worked until 9ish to get work done and ready for the customer to pick up. We always worked together, but dh worked more hours than I did.
Fast forward to now, DH is soon to be 80 years old, still active but many of his friends have died, and anything he enjoyed doing are no longer a lot of fun.
We took very few vacations over the years, so now with time on our hands, we are like a fish out of water.

This is the type of thing that scares me about retirement. What in the world would we do with our time? We are still working, I aways work from home but now hubby works from home. He goes into the office about twice a month. Things were slow for both of us and since haven't been taking vacations; we have vacation days that we must use or forfeit. So, we take days off but we have nothing to do and no where to go. The problem for us is that the places we would want to go, the things we would want to see aren't open.

@chrystaltree ...when you figure out what to do, Let Me Know!
We will work until we are no longer able to or until business is so slow we can't keep our door open.
I always am intrigued when people younger than me and DH can't wait to retire..I always ask, how are you going to fill all those hours every day?
We have saved well and can afford to not work but we don't want to NOT WORK, and you still cannot shop, eat out, etc. every day.
