Re: February 2021 Bird's Nest

Another cold day here!!!  Days are in the low 20's and nights are in the teens and single digits.  So far it had been another warm winter and now it is cold.  It seems the seasons are getting later and later as the years go by.  The temps and weather that we are currently getting feels like early November used to be.  It seems like we just had the propane tank filled and it is due to be filled again.  We had the basement finished when we first moved here and my husband and I do enjoy going down there and either exercising and or watching TV so we can't complain.

@viva923

The weather is to be not so good and is to snow all day starting at around 4am.  We are not taking any chances and will be going like you said for our appointment for the vaccine in case they are open.  If not we tried and will just take it easy driving.  It is about 45 minutes away so we will leave extra early so that we can take it slow.

@possummink

Judging from the photo that you posted we definitely have Starlings and plenty of them.  Seems to be more and more as each day goes by.  Yes, they sure do pig out on the worms.  If we are in the sun room where we can see the feeders we just bang on the window and they disappear.  You are correct about them chasing all the other birds away but I could never hurt them so will just have to keep banging on the windows for now.  Thanks for the photo.  We had them years back but the windows were not close as they are now to the feeders and they looked solid in color so I wasn't sure.

You definitely are getting cold temps there.  It is time to cuddle up in the Berkshire throws that we both have.  We love them and they do make a difference.  Thanks for recommending them.  I sent them to close friends as a house warming gift along with a bird feeder pole and a feeder.  They lived for many years in a condo and never had a feeder.  They bought a 55 plus house and now are enjoying their feeder and throws.

Take care everyone and stay safe and warm!!!

Re: February 2021 Bird's Nest

It remains cold here with highs in the teens.  This is the first winter that I can recall where I've had lots of starlings.  My squirrels usually come by first and I toss out shelled peanuts.  If they don't move fast the flock of starlings swoop down and eat the nuts.  I guess I'll buy more nuts than usual this week - it's cold and they gotta eat too.  I wish they would hit the seed first.

We got a little bit of snow last night.  It was a dry and fluffy kind of snow and it glistened like fairy dust.

Re: February 2021 Bird's Nest

May be an image of bird and nature

Some lucky bird feeding people here in Missouri are getting regular visits from Pileated Woodpeckers coming to their feeders.   Wish I could get this lucky,  though I do have regular Redbellied  Woodpeckers, Hairy and Downy Woodpeckers plus Northern Flickers in the yard.   Even they are coming to some feeders in the area. The lucky persons are getting some beautiful pictures of these awesome birds.

Bluebirds are really hitting the feeders here in MO too.  I haven't ever had one come to my feeders, but then I don't put out mealy worms.  Starlings would devour them before any other bird even knew they were there.
