There are some great responses on this thread.   I wanted to add this:  some Facebook users don't have their notifications set in such a way as to get an alert when someone posts to their threads, or mentions their name by choosing it from the pop-up, or sends them personal message.   As a result, they don't know the question was asked or they don't find it until long after it was posted.

In addition, Facebook has a terribly annoying tendency to "update" their software frequently, including things that change the way the software works for the users.   As a result, sometimes there are changes to the way notifications are generated.   I no longer count on my notifications to be reliable.   Also, I finally decided if someone doesn't reply to me, and I want to find out what's up, I contact them with a different method.   If we normally email each other, or text, or have phone chats, I follow up that way.   I hope that helps, at least a little, @ECBG.    I'm a southern gal, too, but in general I think it's thoughtful for all of us to offer at least some kind of response to a direct question.
