If I didn't know the person well enough (or have a close friend or colleague who did) to meet in public, I would not accept the person as a friend on FB. Maybe I'm just old, but I don't get it. Who wants a possible creeper on FB?  I guess it could be for networking, but does anyone really keep up with different groups and contacts on their FB account when they have hundreds or thousands??

I've gotten some FB friend requests from some really creepy people...mostly men.  I have no idea why.  I'm sure they are scams of some sort.  And you have no way of knowing who you are really dealing with.

When I get them, I block them immediately.  No way would I ever think about meeting up with anyone, male or female.  You don't know them, and can't even be sure that their FB persona is legitimate.

I keep my friends list strictly to family and close friends.

It would depend on how long we have been 'friends'.......if he posts pictures of family an what type of other friends he has on there......

Public place for sure....

Well I have been married for years, but I say sure as long as it's in a public place and let someone know were you will be on this first date. That's how my daughter met her boyfriend, now going on 3 years. Have fun and just be safe. The majority of people in this world are nice. That's what I want to believe.

I found out that this guy is from the UK and plans to visit her in the US in June.  He didn't ask if he could come for a visit, just that he is coming.  He is willing to meet her family, but doesn't want her to tell them he is coming until he gets here and he is willing to meet her in a public place.  How would she do a background check on him seeing he is from another country?  Hopefully, he may not even show up.  Thanks for any advice you can give.

I see scam written all over this.  The next thing will be that something happened with the plane and he needs money for airfare that she has to send ASAP.  Or he's stranded and needs cab money.
