I never call it cheating .... it's my occasional reward for walking the straight and narrow, nutritionally speaking.

One reward:   I love coconut, and, frankly, am grateful there aren't that many great coconut desserts.  So, I have one piece of coconut cream pie, twice a year.  That's enough.

cheeseburger/french fries

pizza

old fashioned fried chicken/mashed potatoes/gravy

hot fudge sundae with salted peanuts

It's been years since I've had any of the above. Pizza is practically in my DNA. My mom ate it all through her pregnancy since she and my dad (military) lived in Naples when I was born. I could eat it once a week if I let myself.

Loved KFC as a child but not as an adult. For some reason, the last few times I had it probably 30 yrs ago it just didn't seem like it was cooked enough.

I'm not into fast food so something like fried chicken isn't on my radar.  However the last few days I have had a bad cold but I was well enough to go to the store to pick up a few items and craved chicken soup.

Wegmans has the best chicken noodle soup and while I was there I picked up a strawberry eclair made fresh that day from their bakery....oh my it was so good!  Sometimes I just need some comfort food.

@LavernLuvsShoes   Yes definitely the rolls and special butter. One year I tried to make the honey butter. How hard can it be? Nope, not the same as Texas Roadhouse.

@Shanus The 2 KFCs near us closed years ago. So I hadn't been to a KFC in years,

There used to be one about 1 mile from our house. I went on a regular basis just for the cole slaw.

But about a month ago while shopping saw a KFC and we decided to stop (it was the only place open around the almost deserted mall.

I had the KFC Famous bowl. It had

  • Creamy Mashed Potatoes
  • Rich Brown Gravy
  • Sweet Corn Kernels
  • Crispy Chicken Nuggets (100% white meat)
  • 3-Cheese Blend (typically cheddar, mozzarella, Monterey Jack)

I wanted to buy a second bowl and have it for dinner. And now I can't get it off my mind. Maybe time to visit the almost deserted mall again.

I don't aspire to "cheat days".  Life is about balance, for me.  Not deliberate deprivation, then "a cheat". Taking care of myself, eating healthy, balanced meals.  Exercise, sleep, etc.  So many, of course, dealing with health issues, conditions which can dictate what is put in their bodies.  A huge factor.  We all are responsible for determining what is right for us.

Lent ends tomorrow, so  I will indulge in some treats.  Have a stash of Easter candy I saved.  My favorites: Reeses peanut butter eggs and Cadbury creme eggs.
