Ever Been There?

[ Edited ]

@SilleeMee. @dancingwoman  @patbz  + Anyone else

Have you ever been to Animas Forks?  I bet you have!  This place is endlessly fascinating to me.  For those who haven't,  its high in the San Juan Mountains of Southwestern Colorado and can only by reached by 4-wheel drive vehicle on a scary road.  To this day, a creek running by the mine is white from arsenic pollution from the 1860s.  Considering the number of people who visit, its amazingly intact, although the weather has done its share of damage.

@dancingwoman. LOL.  She was probably expecting something like running up to McDonald's  for a burger.  Boy did she get surprised!

We always camped on the Cinnamon Pass Road outside of Lake City at Castle Lakes so I've been over both passes many times.  I think the worst of the trip is the shelf road as you start up Cinnamon and I've driven that reluctantly.  I drove all the way to American Basin.  I hate when you meet a vehicle coming down when you're going up and its the road is the width of one car.

@Kachina624   We usually do Engineer and Cinnamon every summer...but since we bought our new truck a couple yrs ago we haven't.  It's a little too long to do the curves safely without rubbing on rocks....and.....like you said..hard to get out of the way when someone is coming from the other direction....hope you have a nice Christmas Day....DW
