Greetings my friends!  This has to be early because I know I won't have any time tonight to do this thread.  My sister is here now, my family is coming tonight, decorating etc. for tomorrow's twin baby shower.  Darla calls it a Pink Party! So my blessings today are that I'm having a nice visit with my 93 year old sister, Deil, and that's wonderful!! She just finished making beautiuful pink and white afghans! She does beautiful work!  Darla will be so pleased!!!  I'll try to get Sunday's thread out tomorrow sometime, but if I don't I'll get at it Sunday.  Lots of company tomorrow night after the shower too!!

The gift of listening is often more valuable than the advice that we'd like to give.
Lord, help me to be a good listener and then help me to let others work things
out according to Your plan for them, not mine.

"I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you, and

"I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you, and
that your joy may be complete."  Even a partial realization of the
spiritual life can bring much joy.  We can feel at home in the world
when we are in touch with God's spirit.  Spiritual experience can
bring a definite satisfaction.  We can search for the real meaning of
life by following spiritual laws.  God wants us to have spiritual
success and God intends that we have it.  If we live our lives as much
as possible according to spiritual laws, we can expect our share of
joy and peace, satisfaction and success.

I pray that I may find happiness in doing the right thing.  I pray
that I may find satisfaction in obeying spiritual laws.

Hard Time
Once a church had fallen upon hard times. Only five members were left: the pastor and four others, all over 60 years old.

In the mountains near the church there lived a retired Bishop. It occurred to the pastor to ask the Bishop if he could offer any advice that might save the church. The pastor and the Bishop spoke at length, but when asked for advice, the Bishop simply responded by saying, "I have no advice to give. The only thing I can tell you is that the Messiah is one of you."

The pastor, returning to the church, told the church members what the Bishop had said. In the months that followed, the old church members pondered the words of the Bishop. "The Messiah is one of us?" they each asked themselves. As they thought about this possibility, they all began to treat each other with extraordinary respect on the off chance that that one among them might be the Messiah.

And on the off, off chance that each member himself might be the Messiah, they also began to treat themselves with extraordinary care. As time went by, people visiting the church noticed the aura of respect and gentle kindness that surrounded the five old members of the small church. Hardly knowing why, more people began to come back to the church.

They began to bring their friends, and their friends brought more friends. Within a few years, the small church had once again become a thriving church, thanks to the Bishop's gift.

Treat others and yourself with love, and you will find yourself and the people around you better for it.

THE ONION
Author Unknown

I was an onion before Christ set me free.
Layers upon layers of iniquity.
An ugly old onion whose fragrance was strong;
That my Jesus bought and loved all along.

Unknown to me what He was going to do.
Of what He was planning, I had not a clue.
Pulling each layer off one by one.
In order to make me more like Jesus the Son.

The first layer wasn't so bad.
I saw all the sins that I knew I had.
They were easy to fix, just change the way I talk.
And learn more of how He wanted me to walk.

Reading His Word, and learning again;
How to put aside my life of sin.
But the next layer was pulled which hurt more.
He was getting closer to the core.

Unknown what He would find there.
I simply gave it to Him in prayer.
As another layer was removed, He started to cry;
Pulling this layer brought pain to my Father on High.

And I was crying over the sadness I felt;
The brokenness and all of the guilt.
Past memories that I thought were gone;
They were buried under layers disguised in a fragrance so strong.

As onions peel more and more;
And they put tears in our eyes as we get close to the core;
So my Father wept over my pain;
Giving me a balm of comfort and strength to sustain.

"No More Layers." I would scream.
As He continued to peel them off of me.
"I'll have nothing left my Lord, what will I do?
I'll be nothing but a worthless core to you. "

But He just said "Trust me," and continued to peel
I was sure He was blinded to my pain that was so real.
Year after year I shrunk more and more;
Until all that was left of this onion was a core.

It was then that I began to understand;
As the Lord embraced me in His loving hand.
He said, now and only now can you be;
The creation that will minister before me.

Clothed with the righteousness only from above;
Gone are your layers of self so you can be filled with my love.
He took my layers of sin, hurt and pain;
And clothed me with love, truth and mercy in His name.

Yes, we are all onions, learning with each day;
How to overcome as each layer is taken away.
Some layers tear and pull at our heart;
While others grieve us to our innermost part.

But we are nothing but an ugly onion without Christ.
Layers upon layers of pride, sin and strife.
Only God can take those layers away.
And clothe us with His righteousness in that final day.

THE GLOVE

"You're so quiet, Son. What's on your mind?" asked Ben's father as he stopped at Ben's room to tell him good night.

Ben put his hands behind his head and stared at the ceiling above his bed. "Oh, I've just been wondering if I should be a missionary."

"You don't seem very excited about the idea," said Dad.

"It seems like such a hard job," said Ben, propping himself up on one elbow. "I have this feeling that I might not be any good at it. What if God calls me to do something I can't do!"

Ben's father thought for a moment, then reached over to Ben's desk and picked up his baseball glove. "What's this?" he asked.

Ben laughed. "Don't be silly, Dad! It's my ball glove."

Dad walked over to the corner of the room. He propped the glove against the wall, found a baseball, and threw it at the glove. Though the ball hit the center of the glove, it rolled to the floor. Dad picked up the glove and looked at it in disgust. "This glove is a total failure," he said, shaking his head.

Ben laughed and laughed. "Oh, Dad, you know it can't catch by itself! It has to have a hand inside."

Dad smiled at Ben. "You're just like this glove," he said. "God has a purpose for your life, Ben, just as there is a purpose for this glove. You put your hand inside the glove to give it guidance and strength----you give it power to catch the ball. In the same way, God will give you power to do whatever He calls you to do. Don't worry, Son, God will never prop you in a corner and leave you alone. It's His mighty hand that does the work when you are willing to be used."

"Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.  I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing."   (John 15:4-5)

Feast Day of Saint Bernadette - April 16th

In 1858, in the grotto of Massabielle, near Lourdes in southern France, Our Lady appeared 18 times to Bernadette Soubirous, a young peasant girl.  It wasn't until the 16th Apparition, on 25th March 1858, that the Lady reveals her name.  (This day co-incides with the feast of the Annunciation, the celebration of the Archangel Gabriel saluting her as 'Full of Grace'.)  The Lady says, "I am the Immaculate Conception".  Poor little Bernadette, she didn't even know what those words meant.

The Immaculate Conception asked that a chapel be built on the site of the vision, and told Bernadette to drink from a fountain in the grotto.  No fountain was to be seen, but when Bernadette dug at a spot designated by the apparition, a spring began to flow. The water from this still flowing spring has shown remarkable healing power and science has yet to identify any curative property.

The message of Our Lady of Lourdes is about the healing Mercy of God, prayers and penance.  St. Bernadette testified to this call of Our Lady of Lourdes by living the rest of her life in humble prayer and suffering in a convent in France.

Lourdes has become the most famous modern shrine of Our Lady.  Bernadette died on 16th April 1879.

On 8th December 1933, the feast of the Immaculate Conception, Bernadette was declared a Saint by Pope Pius XI.  The body of Saint Bernadette remains in the main chapel of the Convent of Saint Gildard in the city of Nevers, France.  To this day, she remains entirely incorrupt.  Around her shrine are inscribed the words of the great promise made to her at Lourdes by the Most Blessed Virgin at the second Apparition: "I do not promise that you will be happy in this world, only in the next."

Let us pray:
O My God, I beg You, by Your loneliness,
not that You may spare me affliction, but that You may not abandon me in it.
When I encounter affliction, teach me to see You in it as my sole comforter.
Let affliction strengthen my faith, fortify my hope, and purify my love.
Grant me the grace to see Your hand in my affliction, and to desire no other comforter but You.
Amen
(Prayer by St. Bernadette)

Our Lady of Lourdes, pray for us.
Saint Bernadette, pray for us.

Prayer for Generosity
Teach us to be generous, good Lord; teach us to serve You as You deserve; to give and not to count the cost, to fight and not to heed the wounds, to toil and not to seek for rest, to labor and not to ask for any reward save that of knowing we do Your will.

Saint Ignatius of Loyola

April 15  - Jesus Calling

Trust Me, and don’t be afraid. Many things feel out of control. Your routines are not running smoothly. You tend to feel more secure when your life is predictable. Let Me lead you to the rock that is higher than you and your circumstances. Take refuge in the shelter of My wings, where you are absolutely secure.

When you are shaken out of your comfortable routines, grip My hand tightly and look for growth opportunities. Instead of bemoaning the loss of your comfort, accept the challenge of something new. I lead you on from glory to glory, making you fit for My kingdom. Say yes to the ways I work in your life. Trust Me, and don’t be afraid.

“Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord, is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation.”
—Isaiah 12:2

From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the foe. I long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings.
—Psalm 61:2–4

But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.
—2 Corinthians 3:18
