I've never been in one either.  There is one in the next town over.

Some of these dollar stores have always had $5 items. Once I got the best carry cart in one that lasted for years.

So it depends.

I usually go to the Dollar Tree mostly for their cards and gift wrap and yes they have Hallmark and such great variety for in laws, grandkids etc cards. They always have more of a selection than other places so pretty amazing and not $7 a card, but $1.25 or some are 2 for $1.25.

Some of the stores are better than others but always worth going to and always busy.

Ours has many easy self service now and the lines move quickly.

They have good packs of sponges with scrubbing backs, the same as in grocery stores, detergent, tissues, dish liquid,- all for  now $1.25, so there are many things that are worth it. Good socks tooSmiley Happy

The tissue and gift bags, many with coveted unicorns, and frozen themes that kids love, but also pretty for every occasion. It is not all tacky junk.

I always feel lucky to have one.

I agree, it's not all tacky junk.  Their small white boards are great for keeping to do lists, cooking menus etc.  Similar to Amazon's but much less.

Love their greeting cards, since they are so reasonable I always have ones available, no extra trip.  And fun cards where I wouldn't buy for the usual $6 and above, now have a couple Halloween cards to give out.

Name brand nail polish and top coats.  Eye brow pencils with brush on end, elastic hair bands, those little pink sponge rollers.  Small packages of candy like York peppermint patties, good portion control. Organizing bins for my home office, they work so well.

And @Group 5 minus 1 all of these are $1.25.

I was there last week.  Everything that was pre-marked with $1.25 had a red sticker placed over that price.

The Matchbox and Hot Wheels cars I would buy for my grandson are now $1.75 as are the little cartoon/movie characters I would get for him.

@Group 5 minus 1,

The $5 things are things that they didn't have and sell before. Not $1 things that are raised to $5.

I found some really nice teal colored velveteen pillows for I think 3, or $5?

Have you ever been to a Dollar Tree?

They have sky rocketed! Many items are now $5.00. I question whether that will remain in business.

Before the 99 Cents Stores went out of business, that was my default dollar store.  Every time I'd walk in I'd actually think there's NO WAY this retailer would ever go out of business, because people NEED discount stores.  Everyone is trying to save money any way they can.  Never happen.  It was a sure thing they'd be around forever.

Well, the 99 Cents Stores went out of business.  It still shocks me when I think about it.

While we complain about high prices, personally, I would much rather Bed Bath & Beyond had just raised prices rather than shutting down.  But if prices are too high, people look elsewhere ... like Amazon, etc.

Brick and Mortar stores cost a LOT more to operate than when the Dollar Stores first came on the scene.  Rents are much higher, as are payroll costs and utilities, etc.  Retailers have to adapt.

IMO,  so they also have items that cost more than $1.25 .... so what?  The items are clearly labeled, so I don't see any problems.  These changes mean they need to have higher sales to stay in business.  I'm not surprised, at all.

I had to clean a ton of corrosion off my car battery last week.  Apparently, it's recommended you use grease or petroleum jelly on the battery parts after they're cleaned.

I looked at Better-half and told him I have Vicks VapoRub and lip balm, but no petroleum jelly.

Drove over to Walmart and they had a giant tub for six bucks.  I'll never have a use for that much product.

Drove over to Dollar Tree.  A 3.53-ounce jar for $1.25.

That store has saved the day more than once.

A few years ago they incorporated a higher priced section. I got a really cute "Peter Rabbit" metal stand for I think $3 last spring.

The last time I was there I saw they were retagging the $1.25 items to be $1.50.

@Group 5 minus 1 ,

I guess I just wondered or if you had enjoyed it once and maybe disappointed that it had changed and upped the price of some things. Sometimes it sounds like some have never been, and just comment on one aspect. Thanks for replying.
