Re: Does A Song Ever Get Stuck In Your Head?

An earworm, sometimes known as a brainworm, sticky music, stuck song syndrome, or Involuntary Musical Imagery (IMI) is a catchy piece of music that continually repeats through a person's mind after it is no longer playing.

For whatever reason, mine is "The Muffin Man". I don't even know the words really or if it is something from when I was a kid, but it drives me nuts sometimes. I think I'll just gooogle it right now and see what it is.

Re: Does A Song Ever Get Stuck In Your Head?

[ Edited ]

Yes and I dont like it at all!  I try and forget the song but it will keep coming back into my mind!  I read how to get rid of the Earworm:

5 Steps (Finally!) to Get a Song out of Your Head | Psychology Today

So if you find yourself battling a pesky earworm,

here is an “evidence-informed” experimental

treatment technique to help:

  1. Identify the song playing in
  2. your head.

  3. Search the Internet and find a complete
  4. version of the song.

  5. Play it and listen to it. Spend that
  6. three minutes focused on it. Don’t
  7. do something else while it plays
  8. and limit yourself to half your
  9. attention; you might doom yourself
  10. to making it your permanent
  11. lifetime mental soundtrack.
  12. After the song is finished, immediately
  13.  engage in a cognitively-engrossing
  14. activity. The researchers used
  15. Sudoko on their participants,
  16. but you could also try crossword
  17. puzzles, word games, or some
  18. other activity that absorbs your
  19. attention and forces your brain
  20. to sweat a little bit. Avoid doing
  21. something that lets your mind wander!

(If you are driving, assuming you stopped
  22. the car to search the Internet and
  23. self-administer the whole song, find
  24. something to do mentally while you
  25. drive. Doing mileage calculations
  26. in your head is useful—figure out
  27. how long it will take you to reach
  28. your destination, going at different
  29. speeds. This will fill up some of that
  30. cognitive capacity that could otherwise
  31. wander back to the song.)

  32. Finally, try my strategy of then replacing
  33. that earworm with other, favorite,
  34. well-known songs (although this
  35. might be an individualistic strategy).

Her name was Lola, she was a showgirl

With yellow feathers in her hair and a dress cut down to there

She would merengue and do the cha-cha

And while she tried to be a star, Tony always tended bar

Across a crowded floor, they worked from 8 'til 4

They were young and they had each other

Who could ask for more?

The hottest spot north of Havana

Music and passion were always the fashion

At the Copa....they fell in love

Re: Does A Song Ever Get Stuck In Your Head?

@Jackhound Mom This Christmas I kept hearing “Santa Claus is Comming to Town” in my head. I am hearing disabled being deaf in one ear and a hearing aid in the other. I can’t hear many songs now and really miss them. I must concentrate to hear the songs.

This year I heard it in a chorus with a complete symphony!

It happened with other songs also but “he sees you when you're Sleeping “ really got annoying ! It stopped when the Holidays were over.

'Islands in the Stream'  (Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers)

'Take  The Long Way Home'  (SuperTramp)

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

"Let me In," from that commercial.  "Somebody" woke me up to it yesterday morning.  I was having such a good dream, too.

Jubliant !!

Just a side note on Just One Look.  I love that song and have since it came out and was a big hit.  My closest dearest friend passed two years ago, we shared a friendship of 55 yrs.  Songs always remind me of a time, place or person.  She loved Just One Look and whenever she heard it, sang along with a smile on her face!!!!!  It has always reminded me of her.  I don't mind when that song lingers in my mind because it brings back such wonderful memories of a friend who left a void in my heart.
