Re: Do you remember ...

[ Edited ]

We never had pop very much either. We either had Kool Aid or Fizzies. Does anyone else remember Fizzies?  I was thinking today while it's so hot here where I live. When I was a kid and we didn't have much money, I'd put my swimsuit on and get into a cold bathtub of water and pretend I was at the pool. Can you see kids today doing that? I don't think so.

I remember when folks actually wore their underwear under their clothes.

When I was a kid in Pittsburgh they had public toilets under the streets - you would go down stairs into the bathroom then it was a pay toilet when you got there. Occasionally my Mom would send my brothers down to one but all 4 went together or none went.I guess she thought there was safety in numbers. She would always ask me to hold it till we got in a store with a proper ladies room, but you know how boys get if they have to wait.

I love reading all of these as I can relate to so many of them. My grandmother also used that old ringer washer and when it ceased to work in the late 70's gramps found her another one.  Just can't waste water or electricity.  Pay toilets,  if we needed a coin every time today they would need to take debit cards as no one carries cash.  I won't drink milk to this day.  It was always delivered to our classroom when we got to school and hours later we drank warm milk! Can you imagine giving ice picks to kids today to open the bottles.  That was a big event for us to do that even in first grade.
