Sophia has curves, but they are not fat curves.  Look how flat her stomach is.

If you look CLOSELY, you will see the net body suit she is wearing under that bikini

Even so, there's only so much squishing you can do.  A fat person will look like a fat squished person in a body suit.  Just like squeezing a bunch of fat into a pair of leggings will not magically make you look skinny.

When I was in my late teens, Twiggy was the ideal. While I was normal weight, I always felt fat. I even went on a 500 calorie a day diet for a year, I was in love with being super skinny. Lucky for me my love of food ultimately saved me from going too far. I wish I was a smaller size, but I'm healthy and I do my best. Being a woman is not always easy, the standards keep changing. 🤷‍♀️

@ahoymate

You're correct.

Adderall (amphetamine and dextroamphetamine) is their weapon these days.

Sophia Lauren & her curves. Good for her.

@ahoymate   There were also eating disorders...lots of pressure.

Historically, my opinion only, I think a lot of how women were heavier in the past also depended on income, class, and rural vs urban.   Can urban middle and lower class women get access to fresh fruits, veggies etc at reasonable prices? Rurals may have had gardens and been much more active in the past, but also had lifestyles where it was a struggle just to get the basics of life....shelter, food and basic healthcare.

That picture looks like she ate 1 spaghetti noodle and 1 teaspoon of sauce!

I never met a carb I didn't like, lol!  You never read, hear or speak the word voluptuous these days; you can tell what era I grew up in...!

I agree with your whole statement about the differences from years ago. Often I ask my wife about the why of things are so prominent some women obviously see differently than me.

To me, more specifically, it is botox used to plump up the lips. For many that have this injected it stands out to me as much as a 7'5" woman would. Some go so far as to remind me how those who dressed as clowns used to extremely exaggerate their lips.

Hey, I have had several of my own elective cosmetic surgeries. One I thought all my friends would notice. They didn't, even when I asked a couple of them, they might say, "oh yeh"!

Used to be that those that had cosmetic changes to parts of their face wanted it to be subtle, now?

As for your thread title? My answer is yes. Probably close to 80% of what I eat are complex carbs. For me that is my best source of fuel which is readily used for energy.

And that pix you included?  Never mind!

A healthy weight is more important to me than the "mirror". With diabetes on both sides of my family, I've always watched the amount of calories I get from carbs. I eat mostly protein and salads. When I do eat carbs, it's whole wheat bread/pasta and brown rice. I have my insulin levels checked every 6 months.

I'm quite active still, so it isn't difficult to stay the same size. I think there are women (& men) that are caught up in  "thin is in" and get there in very dangerous ways.

My love of carbs comes from a desire for instant gratification.  It takes no time to stuff your face with corn chips, pretzels, Triscuits, etc.  Even toast only takes a couple minutes. It was easier when DH was still working out of town for weeks at a time, I just kept that stuff out of the house.  Now, I buy it for him.  You know how that goes.
