@Jo1313 wrote:I grew up in my parents candy/soda fountain store in NYC..I remember people would order a coffee soda..seltzer and coffee syrup..some would order coffee milk shakes..vanilla ice cream and coffee syrup..We had all kinds of syrups..
@Jo1313 Were those called egg creams? I remember visiting my aunt and uncle in the Bronx and they would have the canisters of seltzer stacked up near the refrigerator. They would make me an egg cream with it and boy were they delicious. Fond memories of those.

My husband on occasion puts peanuts in his coke can...I think it sounds awful, but he likes it. If I want peanuts and coke I EAT the peanuts and then have a drink of pop.

Back in NJ in the 50's and 60's they sold a coffee flavored soda. I think it was called Coffee Time, but I am not sure. When I moved to CA in the early 80's a friend's husband went back East on business and he brought a few bottles back for me along with chocolate soda and Yoohoo (for my son) which was not available at the time in CA. I do miss the coffee soda. You'd think with all the emphasis on flavored coffees and more unusual drinks that they would bring that one back again. Like drinking a fizzy iced coffee. I always added a little milk or half and half to mine since it was black. It was really good.

There has been a coffee soda in NY for as long as I can remember. The name is Manhattan Special. It is an espresso soda. I never developed a taste for it in spite of being a coffee addict.
