Daily Positive Thread for Thursday

Hello my friends!  What a day!  Twins were really fussy this afternoon - Darla came up (she was supposed to be sleeping since she is up all night with them) because I was feeding one and the other was screaming.  So she fed the other one, and they both couldn't get right to sleep, but just cried, and  fussed.  They are over 6 weeks now, and tomorrow they have their doctor's appt. and get weighed.  We are going there tonight, came home after he was done with work, had supper, relaxed, and will be going back shortly for the night.  We did this last week and it really helped Darla alot!  So now, let's hope the little cute giris sleep well tonight!!  God bless them!!

Keep yourself young in spirit always by thinking new thoughts and getting
rid of old habits. Lord, may my spirit never become a frail and my abilities
never become barren.

S C R I P T U R E   F O R   T H E   D A Y

"Jesus turned and said to Peter, 'Get behind me, Satan! You are a
stumbling block to me; for you are setting your mind not on divine things
but on human things. 'Then Jesus told his disciples, 'If any want to become
my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow
me.  For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose
their life for my sake will find it.'"  ~Matthew 16:23-25

M E D I T A T I O N   F O R   T H E   D A Y

We were born with the Divine within us.  Living a selfish life can hinder
the Divine from being expressed and shared.  The celestial fire has to be
tended and fed so that it will grow into a real desire to live the right
way.  By trying to do the will of God, we grow more and more in the new way
of life.  By thinking of God, praying to God and having communion with God,
we gradually grow more like God.  The way of our transformation from the
material to the spiritual allows God to work in and through us.

P R A Y E R   F O R   T H E   D A Y

I pray that I may tend the spark of the Divine within me so that it will
grow.  I pray that I may be gradually transformed from the old life to the
new and fuller life.

Prayer to St. Anthony for Emotional Healing

St. Anthony, dear friend and heavenly guide, be present to me now, and let me know your compassion. Pray to our dear Lord for me, that I may experience calmness and peace in my emotions.

Help me to grow in faith and hope. Protect me from all that displeases God, and obtain for me serenity of mind and spirit.

I place all my confidence in you, St. Anthony, and I pray for mercy, grace and God's gentle goodness. Amen.

Mary, Our Model in Prayer

All praise and glory are Yours, almighty Father:
You have given us Your Son Jesus to save us from sin.
We praise You for choosing Mary to be His mother,
for teaching her to believe Your message,
for helping her to accept Your holy will.
Strengthen us by Your Spirit to be like Mary
to ponder Your word in our hearts,
to obey Your will,
to love Your Son,
to sing Your praises every day.
Father, we praise You through Jesus Christ Your Son
In the love of Your Spirit, for ever and ever

Amen.

A SURE WAY TO A HAPPY DAY

Happiness is something we create in our mind.
Its not something we search for & seldom find.
It's just waking up & beginning the day
By countin our blessings & kneeling to pray.
It's giving up thoughts that breed discontent
And accepting what comes as a gift heaven-sent.
It's giving up wishing for things we have not
And making the best of whatever we've got,
It's knowing that life is determined for us'
And pursuing our tasks without fret, fear, or fuss.
For it's by completing what God gives us to do
That we find real contentment & Happiness too.

DON'T LET ME CRY

My son Gilbert was eight years old and had been in Cub Scouts only a short time. During one of his meetings he was handed a sheet of paper, a block of wood and four tires and told to return home and give all to "dad".

That was not an easy task for Gilbert to do. Dad was not receptive to doing things with his son. But Gilbert tried. Dad read the paper and scoffed at the idea of making a pine wood derby car with his young, eager son. The block of wood remained untouched as the weeks passed.

Finally, mom stepped in to see if I could figure this all out. The project began. Having no carpentry skills, she decided it would be best if she simply read the directions and let Gilbert do the work. And he did. She read aloud the measurements, the rules of what they could do and what we couldn't do.

Within days his block of wood was turning into a pinewood derby car. A little lopsided, but looking great (at least through the eyes of mom). Gilbert had not seen any of the other kids cars and was feeling pretty proud of his "Blue Lightning", the pride that comes with knowing you did something on your own.

Then the big night came. With his blue pinewood derby in his hand and pride in his heart they headed to the big race. Once there Gilbert's pride turned to humility. His car was obviously the only car made entirely on his own. All the other cars were a father-son partnership, with cool paint jobs and sleek body styles made for speed.

A few of the boys giggled as they looked at Gilbert's lopsided, wobbly, unattractive vehicle. To add to the humility Gilbert was the only boy without a man at his side. A couple of the boys who were from single parent homes at least had an uncle or grandfather by their side, Gilbert had "Mom".

As the race began it was done in elimination fashion. You kept racing as long as you were the winner. One by one the cars raced down the finely sanded ramp. Finally it was between Gilbert and the sleekest, fastest looking car there. As the last race was about to begin, my wide eyed, shy eight year old ask if they could stop the race for a minute, because he wanted to pray. The race stopped.

Gilbert hit his knees clutching his funny looking block of wood between his hands. With a wrinkled brow he set to converse with his Father. He prayed in earnest for a very long minute and a half. Then he stood, smile on his face and announced, 'Okay, I am ready."

As the crowd cheered, a boy named Tommy stood with his father as their car sped down the ramp. Gilbert stood with his Father within his heart and watched his block of wood wobble down the ramp with surprisingly great speed and rushed over the finish line a fraction of a second before Tommy's car.

Gilbert leaped into the air with a loud "Thank you" as the crowd roared in approval. The Scout Master came up to Gilbert with microphone in hand and asked the obvious question, "So you prayed to win, huh, Gilbert?" To which the young boy answered, "Oh, no sir. That wouldn't be fair to ask God to help you beat someone else. I just asked Him to make it so I don't cry when I lose."

Children seem to have a wisdom far beyond us. Gilbert didn't ask God to win the race, he didn't ask God to fix the out come, Gilbert asked God to give him strength in the outcome. When Gilbert first saw the other cars he didn't cry out to God, "No fair, they had a fathers help".

No, he went to his Father for strength. Perhaps we spend too much of our prayer time asking God to rig the race, to make us number one, or too much time asking God to remove us from the struggle, when we should be seeking God's strength to get through the struggle. Gilbert didn't pray to win, thus hurt someone else, he prayed that God supply the grace to lose with dignity. Gilbert, by his stopping the race to speak to his Father also showed the crowd that he wasn't there without a "dad", but His Father was most definitely there with him. Yes, Gilbert walked away a winner that night, with his Father at his side.

August 17 - Jesus Calling

Find Me in the midst of the maelstrom. Sometimes events whirl around you so quickly that they become a blur. Whisper My Name in recognition that I am still with you.Without skipping a beat in the activities that occupy you, you find strength and Peace through praying My Name. Later, when the happenings have run their course, you can talk with Me more fully.

Accept each day just as it comes to you. Do not waste your time and energy wishing for a different set of circumstances. Instead, trust Me enough to yield to My design and purposes. Remember that nothing can separate you from My loving Presence; you are Mine.

Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
—Philippians 2:9–11

But now, this is what the Lord says—he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.”
—Isaiah 43:1

Re: Daily Positive Thread for Thursday

Thank you all!  Prayers for babies sleeping and not being fussy!  I remember when my niece was a newborn and went on one of her crying spells it drove me nuts because nothing we did calmed her down.  I was so sad and just wanted to make her happy.   Hope the twins are ok and are better today.

Welcome to all the new people!  This is a lovely place to visit and chat with caring and supportive people.

Have a nice day and many blessings and may the day be filled with joy and hope!  Embrace the day and all our ordinary miracles.

Peace, Nancy

Re: Daily Positive Thread for Thursday

Good Morning to everyone,

Thank you for all your welcome in's and I too am excited to get to know all of you. In reading it is my understanding that GloriaJean has twin grandbabies and that is truly a blessing. I have a much younger sister who had twins a boy and girl they are now four but I remember taking turns with my mother helping her as they were premature. Today, it's raining and thundering here and I am so enjoying it, plus we really need the rain. Don't have much planned as yesterday was busy saying goodbye to my neice heading back off to college, my decorator helping me with my kitchen update, we got all decided within fifteen minutes and the next two and a half hours catching up, I so enjoyed that, than went to visit a new friend and see her new grandbaby, whew, it was quite a day, so today I am relaxing.

Hope all have a great day!

Re: Daily Positive Thread for Thursday

Good afternoon ladies -- getting off to a slow start today.  It's ok, as I've been burning it at both ends for the last 5 days.

Gloria - I sure hope the babies slept last night.  Everyone will have a better day, if they did.  I hope the Dr. app't. goes well. Praying for a good report.

Harlene - hope your day is full of blessings.

Nj - I hope you have a wonderful day.  Thinking of the 2 kitty cats.Smiley Happy

Meallen - what a cute pic, thanks!

KateE - sounds like you had a nice visit with your decorator, and she helped with the kitchen too, what a bonus.  Sounds like fun.  It's always nice to have a relaxing day.

I'm watching twin girls outside at the golf clubhouse; look to be about 10, dressed exactly alike, doing cartwheels on the grass.  Makes me smile!!  Gloria, you'll be doing that soon enough.Smiley Happy

Have a blessed day everyone!

Re: Daily Positive Thread for Thursday

The night went well - they did go back to sleep, but both up at the same time at 5 AM !  Sure glad I wasn't alone, and so often Darla is alone, she says one just has to cry until she has time.  I got about a couple hour sleep there!  Took a nap at home later.

KateE - yes, six weeks ago my daughter, Darla, had identical twin girls, and she was 42, and had a C-section.  I am 76 and my husband 77, and these are our first grandchildren!  People on this thread have been praying all through Darla's pregnancy, as she was high risk, and also now for the babies.  Darla is up all night with them, while her husband sleeps because he needs to work during the day, so she needs me or someone there during the day so she can sleep.

Thanks all who posted here! God bless you all!!
