Daily Positive Thread for Sunday

Hello my friends!  Hope your Saturday went well and got finished with what you all wanted to do today.  I rested, couldn't sleep this morning, did some things around the apartment I didn't get around to all week, being hardly here, made a good chicken dinner for supper tonight!  Linus bought a huge watermelon and got that all cut up now - just had some before and is it ever good!!  Lots of good benefits from eating watermelon too.  Officially we're in now for the card club for the year!  Sent in our twenty dollars this morning, the charge is ten a person, and our parish sponsers it so the money goes to the Church for the Card Club fund raiser.  We play a couple (500) once a month when it's convenient for us both - a sheet shows us who hosts etc. It'll be nice to get back in it again, took last year off with moving etc.  Blessings upon your Sunday - rest in the Lord!

See opportunity in your difficulties, not difficulty in your opportunities.
Lord, I will focus on the goodness today brings to me and look for the
many reasons I have to feel joy.

"Be still and know that I am God."  ~Psalm 46:10

We need not become encumbered by petty annoyances.  We need not respond
to emotional upsets by emotional upset.  It is best for us to keep calm
in all circumstances.  We need not fight back.  We can call on the grace
of God to calm us when we feel like retaliating.  We can look to God for
the inner strength to drop those resentments that drag us down.  If we
are burdened by annoyances, we can lose our inward peace and the spirit
of God can be shut out.  We can try to keep peaceful within.

P R A Y E R   F O R   T H E   D A Y

I pray that I may do the things that make for peace.  I pray that I may
have a mission of conciliation.

Cast Your Burdens On Him

To every one on earth
God gives a burden, to be carried down
The road that lies between the cross and crown.
No lot is wholly free;
He giveth one to thee.

Some carry it aloft,
Open and visible to any eyes;
And all may see its form and weight and size.
Some hide it in their breast,
And deem it there unguessed.

Thy burden is God's gift,
And it will make the bearer calm and strong;
Yet, lest it press too heavily and long,
God says, "Cast it on Me,
And it shall easy be."
And those who heed His voice,
And seek to give it back in trustful prayer,
Have quiet hearts that never can despair;
And hope lights up the way
Upon the darkest day.
Cast your burdens on the Lord and he'll bear them for you.
Have a wonderful weekend and be blessed by all you see and do.

Judgment Day

You stand before God with sweaty palms and a racing heart. He's asking you
only one question: Do you know and have you accepted My Son?
You reply confidently: Yes.
Finally, He has granted you entry into heaven.
As you are about to enter the golden gates, your friend at school -- whom
you've known for quite sometime -- quickly yells something at you. You know
that person isn't a Christian and a deep sorrow sweeps over you as you
remember how you tried to just get enough courage to speak to him/her about
Christ. But, now it is too late. You look into the eyes of this friend
you've known and can't help to feel some pity for them. You know what's
going to happen. You try to ignore the feeling of guilt and sadness.
Besides, you're going to heaven -- why dwell on the past? You strain your ears
to hear what he/she is trying to say. Finally, you understand. Your friend
is asking you one simple question:
"Why didn't you tell me?"

Isaiah 43:8 -- Lead out those who have eyes but are blind, who have ears but
are deaf.

Believe what God believes... Overcoming negative feelings, whether they stem from childhood or current situation, takes time and effort, but change is possible. Christian psychologist, Dr. ****** Dickerson, has written a beautiful summary of how God looks at you. Read this passage aloud to yourself every morning and evening for the next month, then evaluate how your feelings about yourself have changed:

BECAUSE GOD LOVES ME, HE IS SLOW TO LOSE PATIENCE WITH ME.

BECAUSE GOD LOVES ME, HE TAKES THE CIRCUMSTANCES OF MY LIFE AND USES THEM IN A CONSTRUCTIVE WAY FOR MY GROWTH.

BECAUSE GOD LOVES ME, HE DOES NOT TREAT ME AS AN OBJECT TO BE POSSESSED AND MANIPULATED.

BECAUSE GOD LOVES ME, HE DOES NOT NEED TO IMPRESS ME WITH HOW GREAT AND POWERFUL HE IS BECAUSE HE IS GOD. NOR DOES HE BELITTLE ME AS HIS CHILD IN ORDER TO SHOW ME HOW IMPORTANT HE IS.

BECAUSE GOD LOVES ME, HE IS FOR ME. HE WANTS TO SEE ME MATURE AND DEVELOP IN HIS LOVE.

BECAUSE GOD LOVES ME, HE DOES NOT SEND DOWN HIS WRATH ON EVERY LITTLE MISTAKE I MAKE, OF WHICH THERE ARE MANY.

BECAUSE GOD LOVES ME, HE DOES NOT KEEP SCORE OF ALL MY SINS AND THEN BEAT ME OVER THE HEAD WITH THEM WHENEVER HE GETS A CHANCE.

BECAUSE GOD LOVES ME, HE IS DEEPLY GRIEVED WHEN I DO NOT WALK IN THE WAYS THAT PLEASE HIM BECAUSE HE SEES THIS AS EVIDENCE THAT I DON'T TRUST HIM AND LOVE HIM AS I SHOULD.

BECAUSE GOD LOVES ME, HE KEEPS WORKING PATIENTLY WITH ME EVEN WHEN I FEEL LIKE GIVING UP.

BECAUSE GOD LOVES ME, HE KEEPS ON TRUSTING ME WHEN AT TIMES I DON'T EVEN TRUST MYSELF.

BECAUSE GOD LOVES ME, HE NEVER SAYS THERE IS NO HOPE FOR ME. RATHER, HE PATIENTLY WORKS WITH ME, LOVES ME, AND DISCIPLINES ME IN SUCH A WAY, THAT IT IS HARD FOR ME TO UNDERSTAND THE DEPTH OF HIS CONCERN FOR ME.

God, Are You There?

I'm way down HERE!
You're way up THERE!
Are You sure You can hear
My faint, faltering prayer?
For I'm so unsure
Of just how to pray—
To tell you the truth, God,
I don't know what to say...
I just know I am lonely
And vaguely disturbed,
Bewildered and restless,
Confused and perturbed...
And they tell me that prayer
Helps to quiet the mind
And to unburden the heart
For in stillness we find
A newborn assurance
That SOMEONE DOES CARE
And SOMEONE DOES ANSWER
Each small sincere prayer!

Can Your Actions Affect Others?

Mark was walking home from school one day when he noticed the boy ahead of him had tripped and dropped all of the books he was carrying, along with two sweaters, a baseball bat, a glove and a small tape recorder.

Mark knelt down and helped the boy pick up the scattered articles. Since they were going the same way, he helped to carry part of the burden.

As they walked, Mark discovered the boy's name was Bill, that he loved video games, baseball and history, and that he was having lots of trouble with his other subjects, and that he had just broken up with his girlfriend.

They arrived at Bill's home first and Mark was invited in for a Coke and to watch some television. The afternoon passed pleasantly with a few laughs and some shared small talk, then Mark went home.

They continued to see each other around school, had lunch together once or twice, then both graduated from junior high school. They ended up in the same high school where they had brief contacts over the years.

Finally the long-awaited senior year came and three weeks before graduation, Bill asked Mark if they could talk.

Bill reminded him of the day years ago when they had first met. "Did you ever wonder why I was carrying so many things home that day?" asked Bill.

"You see, I cleaned out my locker because I didn't want to leave a mess for anyone else. I had stored away some of my mother's sleeping pills and I was going home to commit suicide. But after we spent some time together talking and laughing, I realized that if I had killed myself, I would have missed that time and so many others that might follow. So you see, Mark, when you picked up those books that day, you did a lot more, you saved my life."

Re: Daily Positive Thread for Sunday

Lovely pieces to read. Thank you!  Hope everyone's Saturday was nice. Got a lot done and was even able to relax and read. Meeting a friend for lunch and then getting things ready for my first day of school on Monday! We have 2 days of meetings then the kiddos return.  Must admit to some butterflies in my stomach but I have never been one for transitions.  So, trying to calm my anxieties.

Peace today to each of you!  Many blessings.

Peace,Nancy

Gloriajean, beautiful post as always. I love watermelon--and honeydew, cantaloupe, etc. summer fruit is the best.

@nj, I'll pray for your first day back, that it goes well and for the jitters. I taught part-time at a large university for many years. Even though I loved it, I was so nervous the first few days of every semester!  You think you'd get over that as the years go by, but it didn't happen for me. I bet you are such an asset to your school.

@lovestopaint, I'll pray for a calm spirit for you tomorrow and that the shots do their job.

Many years ago I read in an Upper Room, "Walk into the future expecting God to be there."

Nancy - welcome back to the school year!  I understand about butterflies, and I never taught school! I'm not one for getting up in a group - no way.  Although I did teach CCD (religion classes for third grade for 10 years.  But I had only a few in class like about 10 or less.  Praying for you to calm your nerves.
