Why don't you call the local rental places and ask them? That will be concrete information that you'll be able to use in making an educated, sound plan.

Depends on the type/model car you want to rent.
If it were me, I would call all the local rental companies & negotiate the price. Then go w/the one who comes closest to the price you are willing to pay.
You will also need to take into consideration if you want their insurance or your own auto insurance to cover your rental.
If you do not have rental coverage through your car insurance, I would call them to see if they would cover the rental.

Fifteen years ago I broke my left foot and couldn't drive my car which had a clutch. My doctor said I would be in a boot for about two months.
I bought a junker from Craiglist and fixed it up. I ended up being over five months in the boot. I sold the car for more than I paid for it and actually made a little money.
But that was back when cars didn't cost a fortune.
Still, it's an option, depending upon the circumstances.

For that amount of time I'd also ask when they are billing my credit card?
They may want a large hold on your card for an extended period.
I use Enterprise.

I rent a car from Enterprise for several weeks at a time, a couple of times a year, while I'm in Florida. It is not inexpensive, but it's more convenient for me to do it that way.
I do it all on-line on their website.
My auto insurance covers a rental for 30 consecutive days, so anything over that, I have to go back to the airport and "return" the car, which just consists of getting a new set of paperwork for the remainder of the rental. I also have additional insurance thru my credit card. You'll need to check your auto policy to see if rentals are covered and if there are any time limits.
A hold for the total anticipated amount of the rental is placed on your credit card at the time that you pick up the car. Some companies, such as Avis, offer a discount if you pay in full at the time that you rent, but I've never done that as I found the T&C to lack flexibility for changes.

I'd ask my insurance agent for a recommendation

@Allthingsgirly67, have you tried using sites like Booking dot com, or Expedia to get an idea of the cost. But I agree talk directly by phone or in person at an agency to try and negotiate a price.
Also, perhaps think contacting new and used car dealerships to see if they may have short term leasing. Or they may have a list of those wanting someone to takeover their lease.

Something else I want to add. Think about using a credit card and not a debit card. If you use a debit then you will have an outstanding additional hold on you money during the duration of the rental. And find out how they will be billing you. Weekly, monthly or a lump sum.
