Can someone please explain to me how Rakuton works?

I’ve seen mentioned that people get money back for purchases they made and received a check back from them. Is this a legit site and how do they make money if they are giving you money?

It is legit. They were Ebates. The receive a commission from the companies when people use their site for shopping. There are also some brick and mortar stores that offer a rebate. They pay out quarterly...I think. I just got a check for almost $170.00.

They earn the commission from the store and share it with the buyer.

Plus, they get to play with the float on all that $$$, since the payout is quarterly.

They are definitely legit - Been using them for years.

While I don't spend a ton of $$$$ shopping online, when I do shop, I usually get a bit of a "rebate," and it results in a quarterly deposit into my Paypal account.

It's enough to keep me using their site, but I won't get "rich" doing so (LOL)

How do you join? I mainly shop on line. Also how do you use it when making a purchase? I think I might like to do this.

LOL!!!. I thought it was a scam before I started using rebate sites. They are legit or the ones I have used are.

I like Mr. Rebates, Rakuten, Retailmenot plus more.

Each site has all the info you need to see how they work.

You need to set up an account so you can get started. After you set up your account if you want to make a purchase some place you have to login to your account on the rebate site. After you login you find the store you are going to shop at & click on the store from the rebate site which will take you to the store you want to shop at. After your purchase you will receive a rebate. It takes a little time to get it. The rebate sites keep your rebate for I think 90 days before you get paid. You can get paid by check or if you use Paypal they can deposit your money to your Paypal account. If you make a return they do take your rebate back. That's why they wait 90 days to pay you. If you don't receive your rebate you can fill out info they request so they can look into it so you can get paid.

If you shop at HSN watch those. I will only order 1 item at a time & go through the rebate site for each item purchase. Kind of hard to explain. When I order 2 bags Andrew Lessman Choconuvo I only received the rebate for 1 bag? Even though I ordered both at the same time they only gave me a rebate for the 1 bag. Now I buy 1 bag & buy another bag later in the day or the day before so I get rebates on each bag. Sneaky how they do this but they do. I want my rebate for each item I buy not just one item on the same invoice? Especially since each bag at TSV price is $150.

Get a notebook so you can write down your purchases plus the rebate site you used for which purchase so you can make sure you get your rebates.

Look over each site FAQ's so you know how they work.

Just sign up at Rakuten (dot) com

You will find a list of "Participating Stores"

Whenever you shop at one of their participating stores, you'll receive a Cash Back Reward

They pay out quarterly - You can opt for a physical check to be mailed or you can get your payout directly deposited to your Paypal account.

I'm not an online shopper outside of Amazon. Ordering online 3-4xs a yr is a lot for me.

Wish there was a rebate program for b&m stores. Then I could retire from retirement!

@Nightowlz I've been using Rakutan for several years but I didn't think of buying one item at a time to get a rebate on each purchase ! Thanks for the info ! I only use Rakutan, just got a rebate check a few days ago. I like the fact that they automatically send your check. I stopped using Topcash because you have to request your rebate check vs the company sending it on a scheduled basis. Your instructions about writing down your purchases and which rebate site is a very smart idea ! I've never tried Mr. Rebates, might just look into that one. I've received very good rebate checks from Rakutan ! I like this rebate thing ! .

You might want to start a post about using these rebate sites in stores not just online. I thought you could do that. We don't have much shopping here so I shop online a lot.
