Hi. Been seeing the terrible weather, rock slides, highway closures....I've been worried about you. All OK?

@Shanus

We're fine, thank you.

Our house is built into the side of a hill with the creek (that became a raging river) 20 feet below our driveway.

The water was strong enough to move a 400 lb foot bridge DH had made and placed over the creek.

We can see very well; our bedroom window is 3 stories up with a full basement.

I built this house to give you the illusion of being in a tree house.

This water comes from the rain as well as the cove we are in.

DH went to Chimney Rock to deliver a new computer cable he had made yesterday, and the water was so dangerous there, they had closed the rock.

I close today, and leave at 7:30 so I will be able to see well.  The roads should be straightened out before I go in at 2 pm.

I drive next to the large French Broad river which can always present issues.

In rain like this, the water will come up to the road.  In some places on the other side it's a solid rock wall.

The water is usually clear.  This is after a large rain.

We had 4 people killed in one week in flash floods in the city limits of Albuquerque.  I believe Arizona has had deaths in similar flooding.

How are you?

Your area is under mud from the surrounding mountain.

It's a good thing the duck left!

@ECBG You live in a very very beautiful area!  One of my favorites!

@Kachina624 It is breath taking to come in to Albuquerque from the east at night!  All those lights in the bowl!

Way back in 1967 we stayed in some round motel I think there.  I remember the wind making a whistling sound.  I thought the whole thing was so exotic!

Although I have been back there several times, not there in a long time!

If you're not to far away, "leaf season" is the same time as the big Guild craft show at the civic center.  It's quite a visual treat!

You can also go to Chimney Rock Park where you can see 5 states.  DH was there yesterday.

@ECBG  I was concerned about you too.  Good to see you are ok.  I live in the Carolina foothills below you (I am 15 minutes from the TIEC) and in "horse country".  We had terrible storms yesterday in late afternoon and evening with the tornado sirens going off twice in a couple of hours.  Roads flooded all around.  We have a creek below our house and it has weakened our driveway so much this year that we are replacing the section.  Water overwhelms the flow pipe and rises about 8 feet to flow over the driveway.  Same happening to our neighbors and sections of public roads.

If my dog doesn't like you, neither do I.

Good to hear you're doing ok.  Water is a powerful force.

We get a lot of run off being in the bottom of a large cove.

What is "TIEC" please?

@ECBG sorry.  TIEC is the Tryon International Equestrian Center.   It's off hwy 74 east of Columbus.  Love the pic of Chimney Rock.

Thank you.  I grew up with horses and had a large strawberry roan which I used to ride up to the Blue Ridge Parkway.

I moved into the city at 14 and experienced city life.

My high school was built during the Art Deco period which was interesting.
