Yesterday my DH and I jay-walked across a busy street, and didn't realize a cop was watching. He pulled us overr and I was sure we were going to be given citations.

Instead, it turned out he was on his was to a local hospital to check on a badly injured jay-walker, and he was really upset. He gave us a long lecture and I think he would hav wtitten us up if he'd had the time.

I felt bad for him and I know better than to argue with an upset cop, so we just kept our yaps shut except for the occasional, "Yes. officer." And I won't be jay-walking again any time soon.

Not sure why you would argue, upset cop or not.

The OP probably did not mean "argue" but to try to talk their way out of a jay walking ticket.  Here in Florida a lot of people get hit and killed while walking along the side of the road.  Some of that I blame on the victims because I have seen so many people walking in the dark, wearing dark clothes, and walking right next to busy streets.  There are also a lot of jay walkers in town.  These people just wander out into the street without even looking.  They also can't seem to follow the lighted signs for crossing the streets.  Many of us are in a hurry, or think we will be fine if we don't see any cars coming.  But it is better to be safe than sorry, as they say.

What was there to argue about???   You were jay walking and he really should have given you a citiation.  You should have kept quiet and been thankful he didn't.

@Puppy Lips...I agree with you....I am pretty sure they would not have argued but maybe 'argued' their reason...in a hurry, didn't think, something along those lines.

well, I should probably have worded that better. What I was getting at was, I considered telling him that we had looked both ways and it WAS safe to cross, plus I have a disability that makes it hard for me to walk long distances--hence, the jaywalking. (not justifying, just explaining)

But I wasn't about to say that to a cop who was very upset, not just at us, but because he had just been involved in a jaywalking case that didn't end so well.

@Huge Hannah.  i don't understand why the complete story wasn't told in the beginning. I was going to respond yesterday but decided it wasn't worth it.

This is an ongoing complaint I have. More times than not, the op doesn't give us the whole story. It comes out in bits and pieces.
