@Caligurll  I am not afraid of snakes, lizards, rodents. If I see a cricket or a "palmetto bug" I scream and run for cover. If I had to deal with what you experienced, I think I would have had a "psychological breakdown".  I'm in the south, and those darn things are everywhere. I cannot go outside on my driveway at night because there is a "palmetto bug" convention every night. My daughter has to take the dog out at night, I can't do it. I grew up in the north, and nothing prepared me for the numbers and sizes of "southern bugs".

@CatLoverDogsTooI know, without a doubt, 100% sure, I would NEVER survive a snake in my house (or anywhere in close proximity to me).  Oh no no no.  I am beyond afraid of them.  I'm sure the fact that one of my older brothers used to chase me around the yard with a snake in his hands had nothing to do with it (yeah, right).  In hindsight I realize he could have easily caught me and tormented with them, but he never did.  But you could not have convinced me at the time that he wouldn't throw it at or on me.

Northern girl here....I can't imagine myself being able to adjust to bugs this large or so numerous in other warm climate areas.  I can remember long ago visiting my good friend in FL....thought I could sit out front in her yard in lawn chair...get some sun.  WRONG....within minutes I had the largest grasshoppers all over my chair and legs that I had ever seen in my life!!!!  OMG....I slapped them off me...running for the house....shaking.  My friend told me they get their house sprayed each month...but perhaps NOT their yard/lawn I think NOT!! LOL

But it's not perfect in the north either....a small field mouse got in my house and nearly gave me a heart attack.  I was reaching for the draw in kitchen to put dish towels away....as I pulled open that draw coming toward me was the mouse....I ran...it ran toward back of draw....I couldn't get my voice to work....slapping my head with hands sputtering trying to tell my H...pointing at drawer freaking out!  Planted poison traps all over....cleaned EVERYTHING for hours....looking for rat poop...trying to figure out how it got in and if there were others around!  Took me months to relax...couldn't open draw without shaking.  I saw it ate the poison....and never had another incident....still I won't be removing the poison...you never know.  Feel better with it there.

I don't have a problem with rodents either and as an adult have even had a pet rat. But one year in ILlinois, the rat population was high. We had a townhouse and the landlords told the entire complex that because of the woods directly behind, to be vigilant and call them if there were any issues. We heard scratching at night and then one of my mom's candles got gnawed on. So we called and they put down poison. Saturday morning, I was the first up and went in the basement to watch MTV. We had snuggies, before they were called snuggies. Anyway, I put my feet in and felt something. Well, you know what it was. It had gotten into the poison and died, but there it was in the bottom of my snuggie. I must have screamed so loud! My sleeping parents about had heart attacks. Anyway, the maintenance men came and got it, examined it and it was just a regular old Norwegian Rat from the woods. Never saw another one. The conditions were just right for them to have many litters that year. Mom bought me a new snuggie. There was no way the laundry was going to be good enough.
