Welcome friends old and new to the Bird's Nest for May.  According to Michigan Audubon, we should start seeing more of these birds (to name just a few) in our state during the month of May.

Among the trees is a bird's nest,

and in the nest her three eggs rest,

and in each egg, Hush, you'll be heard!

There lies asleep A tiny bird.

Re: Bird's Nest - May 2026

I'm looking at a calendar on the wall next to my desk and still can't believe it is the first of May.

Late Monday afternoon I noticed a red blotch on my upper left thigh.  I didn't give it much thought because my skin has become hypersensitive since I hit my 50's.  There is an old saying in Michigan that if you live here long enough you will either develop sinus issues or allergies.

The blotch was still there and a bit larger on Tuesday so I applied Calamine lotion on it because Calamine lotion is my wonder drug.  When I got up on Wednesday morning the blotch was bigger and warm to the touch.  I sat on the sofa and said you know, you asked Mary to go to urgent care when she first felt ill and she refused.  Follow your own advice Bernie.  I arrived at my local urgent care as soon as they opened and was diagnosed with cellulitis.  There are no cuts or abrasions in that area of my body so your guess is as good as mine how this started.

The physician was wonderful.  My vital signs were excellent and I actually gained one pound (yea).  There was no swelling, blistering or anything like that and the doctor said that I caught it really early and that the infection was localized.  I received a shot of Rocephin and a prescription for Keflex.  She thinks 5 days of 500mg of Keflex 4 times a day should do the trick and I am seeing improvement.

@Bird mama

You were smart to go in when your leg started looking worse.  You know your body is under stress and can do some weird things because of it.

You caught it early so hopefully the medication will do the trick.👍

Mary would be proud of you! đź’•

@viva923  When the blotch wasn't better by Tuesday afternoon I thought dang don't tell me I have cellulitis.  I looked for pictures of cellulitis on the leg and they were all on the part of the leg below the knee.  I took pictures Monday and Tuesday and I could tell that it was on the move.  Wednesday morning I googled pictures of cellulitis on the leg and there it was -  a lady with a blotch of it on her thigh.  I said oh boy, that's what I got.

Viva, my current situation can accommodate oral antibiotics or IV therapy on an outpatient basis.  It cannot accommodate inpatient hospitalization - final answer.  The fear that this would get to the point of me requiring inpatient care is what moved me to be there as soon as they opened the urgent care.

@geezerette  I usually get away with giving my body the tincture of time to resolve many things.  That worked when my Mary was here and my backup for all things.  I still believe in the tincture of time - I just give my body less time, lol.

@Bird mama  Yes it's a wonder drug especially if you have poison ivy 👍🏾

Oh my gosh, Bernie, I just read about your new problem in the leg, glad you went to Urgent Care and got medicine to get rid of it.  Once when I remember I was having such stress I broke out with a rash on my arm, and I got in to my Nurse Practioner at the time, and she said it was Shingles and got some medicine for that and it went away fast.

We have a lot of finches here, and once in a while I see a Goldfinch, we have chickadees here, and cardinals, that go to my daughter's house every day but not here - yet, and still waiting for the Baltimore Oriels. Got the grape jelly out. Also have safflower seeds out too because squirrels don't like it but the rest of the birds do.

Praying you will soon be well, Bernie, and no more bad surprises!!
