The month of April is going to try me and test me. My late sister's favorite holiday is Easter and her birthday is on the 17th.

My grief is unrelenting and I will never be the person that I was before she died. If I make it through April and can still string words together to make coherent sentences then I'll take it as a sign that I am going to be 'okay'.

These days the birds are singing and courting and the squirrels are rough housing with each other and foraging. There are buds on the trees and shrubs and nature is waking up. It's the season of new and returning life and it's beautiful.

Among the trees is a bird's nest,

and in the nest her three eggs rest,

and in each egg, Hush, you'll be heard!

There lies asleep A tiny bird.

April is the cruelest month, breeding Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing Memory and desire, stirring Dull roots with spring rain. Winter kept us warm, covering Earth in forgetful snow, feeding

I'm with T.S. Eliot on this one.

Too many birthdays come up this month, too many anniversaries of loved ones lost. My father and favorite sister have April birthdays -- and my father passed away in April. My sister passed not long after her 50th birthday, twenty-three years ago. Both unexpected.

And, of course, April brings with it tax bills. Big ones.

Yet, this is probably the most beautiful spring I've seen in years. It came early, everything is green and blossoming, the critters are out and about and it rained this morning.

The very best and the very worst, together. That's life, I suppose.
