I had a friend like that. She would tell me she just wanted to make everyone she met or came across
to feel good with a smile or to make them laugh.
On her last birthday she said instead of presents or celebrating her, she wanted to let everyone know how much they had given her and meant to her in her life.

I so agree, and since living in the South now, I find the people to be so happy and kind.
They open doors for you here, actually stop while driving to give you the right of way, and always have a smile on their face.
I was waiting on the curb the other day for a friend, and an elderly woman stopped her car, got out and asked if I needed help. I was really stunned, she was so kind.
An older man beckoned to me to step in front of him on line at the store, he said, "Chivalry is not dead in the South".
Kindness means more than you think.

@Ronettes, as a North Carolina native I just want to thank you for your sweet post!
It made my heart happy to read that you've been treated well here in the South! The examples you gave are just a part of everyday life where we live, so I'm afraid we can be guilty of taking things like that for granted. Thanks for the reminder of how special it is here. ![]()

I second that. I just hope that those who choose NC as their new home, will appreciate the kindness and reciprocate. I have seen even in our broadcasting companies, they have over the years brought in outsiders to try and "change and enlighten" us. We are fine just like we are. 😁

I noticed how kind South Carolina people were when we stayed there for vacation. Everyone greeted us with ma'am and yes sir when we asked for help.
While gowing up, that's how we had to address our elders.

Many years ago I visited Lubbock Texas.
OMGosh.......what wonderful, helpful people.
I was in a dress shop and asked for directions to another shop or store. One of the sales girls who wasn't busy at the time walked with me a couple of blocks and brought me to that place of business.
Now that's genuine and helpful service.

I used to work in customer service for Home Depot water heater service. We got calls from every state, the very nicest people were Texans. The meanest...New York. Home Depot doesn't have that service anymore.
